Please Help!
As I've said before I am a Catholic school teacher. I teach fifth grade. I taught K and Pre-K previous years. I'm not happy where I am but I'm thankful to have a job and to get the opportunity to teach an older grade this year. I have been trying to get into public school for at least 2 years with no luck at all.
I got called to interview for a leave replacement in a very very good school district. The leave starts in Feb. Is there anything I should know about how to interview for leave replacements? The VERY few times I've interviewed have been for permanent positions. I'm a bit worried about this interview. Any pointers or suggestions you have is very much appreciated. I really hope this works out..thanks!!

Re: Please Help!
Good luck! I've had a couple of interviews for leave replacements/permanent sub and there were some classroom management questions, guided reading questions, how I would prepare myself if I had to take over a classroom....you'll be fine!

Re: Please Help!
i would say the interview will be similar to one for a permanent position. i would imagine theywould also throw in questions about how would you handle the transition, help parents and kids handle the transition, etc. What would you differetly or the same as the previous teacher, etc.? Also, how long is the leave for? is it worth it to leave your job now? you may be out of luck again in September if it's not a long leave or if they don't have anything for you.
I wishyou lots fo luck!!!!!!!

Re: Please Help!
I don't know how long the leave is for. I will be asking that question on the interview if the principal doesn't tell me.
I've been looking for a public school job for a very long time now...I love my fifth grade students but I'm really not enjoying teaching fifth grade. This leave is for Kindergarten or first grade.
I was going to start looking for a job for sept. 09 in January. If I couldn't find one I was going to start subbing anyway. So my plan is to leave the catholic school I'm in now. I might even be excessed this year from this catholic school..it is very unpredictable right now.
I know its a risk, but this district and particular school is a very good one and I just could not pass on it. I'm taking it one day at a time.
Thank you both for your responses!!

Re: Please Help!
I am going to be very honest with you. As great as the position is, i would go on the interview for the experience but...so many districts are going to be experiencing HUGE State Aid cuts for the 2009-2010 school year. I work in a district where they are talking about cutting 170 teaching jobs. Mnay other school districts will be cutting teaching jobs too.
Before leaving the job that you have now I would make sure that you DEFINITELY have a job for next school year.
i'm sorry to burst your bubble but it took me 4 yrs to get my job here on LI and that was because in the early 90's we had the same economic problems with school aid like we are going to have now!
I wish you the best of luck though!
