Please help me
DH and I just got Rocky on Sunday. He already is the love of our lives. I cannot imagine how anyone would have abused him (he was burned). Sunday we were with him all day. Yesterday I came home early from work to be with him. He stays in our bedroom when we are out. This morning I went to work. DH left later. He said he cried a lot. I came home to walk him and then had to leave to go to a case. I could hear him crying when I left our apartment. I am so distraught now. Did I do the right thing by leaving him? I am going to look into a dog walker I think but I just feel like I am a bad parent.
TIA

Re: Please help me
He may just not be used to being alone yet. If you got him from a shelter, there were probably tons of other dogs there with him, and people during the day. Now he's just lonely. You're not being a bad parent at all by leaving him!!! Try keeping the TV or radio on in your bedroom so that he hears noise, and make sure to leave him water and a couple of toys (maybe bones so he has something to keep busy with). My dog used to cry so loudly when I left for work that I could hear him from outside. It's hard walking away knowing that they're upset, but they stop eventually, and soon enough he'll get used to being alone. Hang in there!

Re: Please help me
It will take him some time to adjust. I have to admit, my dogs are 5 and 4 and I still feel badly when I leave them as they sit by the door and wait for me....and they aren't alone more than 2 hrs a day if at most.
You can def look into a dog walker but odds are he will adjust. Mine unfortunately have not.

Re: Please help me
Melissa,
You are NOT a bad furry mommy!! You have a life and you are including him in that life. If mommy doesn't go to work, how will Rocky get his toys????
The kong is a great idea. I highly recommend putting peanut butter in it and then freezing it over night or as long as you have. He'll have to work at getting it out instead of just licking it out and being done in five minutes flat.
FYI to everyone: The Long Island Family Festival and Pet Expo is this weekend at Tanner Park in Copaigue. I'll be manning the Best Friend's Dog Training booth on Sunday from 11 until about 6 or so. Stop by and say hi. Furry babies are allowed as long as they are on leash.
