Please help me to remain calm :)

So, I have always had anxiety issues. . . but have kept them basically under control this entire pregnancy until now. . .

I am looking at the forecast and making up in my head that this heat is going to make us have a massive blackout and I am going to have to give birth in a back alley somewhere.

I have three weeks left, no labor signs, no reason to believe that I am ready but I can't get it out of my head.

We lost power the other night for a half hour and I was hyperventilating by the time it came on. Chat Icon

So tell me how irrational this is please, humor me Chat Icon

Don't worry! Hospitals have generators. Dh can still drive you to the hospital even if there is a blackout!

Like the pp post said, IF there was a black out at the exact time that you are in labor, the hospital will still be functioning. Think about all of the people on ventilators and such...those have to run, even in a power outage.

That being said, I am really sorry you are having anxiety issues. I have been having panic attacks this pregnancy and that is something I have never struggled with. It has given me a whole new appreciation for people who have high anxiety like this!

Like people said, there are generators and stuff but also, what are the chances of your neighborhood having a blackout and the hospital as well, normally blackouts aren't islandwide just random areas and for the most part are fixed right away. If it's like that storm in March, I know LIPA was working on restoring power to the most important things first and I'm sure a hospital falls in that category.
And people gave birth up until about a hundred years ago without any electricity so you would survive...this won't happen to you though, there will def be electricity.

I doubt any of this will happen though but I just figured I'd tell you because I have thoughts like this too and DH says I'm crazy and I don't want to hear that I'm crazy, I want to hear that even if the world is ending on the day I give birth that he has a backup plan in place and we will get to the hospital lol.

1) It's been this hot before (last weekend and some of last week was BRUTAL) and the lights stayed on Chat Icon

2) If there was a loss of power and by some strange coincidence you went into labor, your car will still work and you will be able to get your hiney to the hospital where they will have power.

3) There will be no blackout.

4) You will not go into labor this weekend. Chat Icon

Just think though- if there are no lights, no one will see when you poop on the table.

Re: Please help me to remain calm :)

We had a blackout in the hospital the night my first son was born.

It was insane. The hospital went on a generator but we had to wait a few hours after deciding I was going to have a csection for the Operation Room to cool down when the lights went back on.

The hospital handled it amazingly though, and I didn't even know we were on the generator until I was sweating my asss off because the AC was not priority for them! Don't worry!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
