Please help re: Child Care rates? URGENT!
Hi,
Someone has asked me to watch their two boys. ages 1 and 2. In addition, I will have my 6 month old daughter (I know, I am crazy). Anyway, they were asking me what I wanted to be paid.
What can I say that is fair? I was thinking $10 an hour. It is for two kids, an infant and a toddler. And it is long days, 3 days a week, 7:45-6:30.
Do you think this is fair or too much, or too little? Thanks, Denise

Re: Please help re: Child Care rates? URGENT!
I really dont have any first hand experience in this area. But there is a woman who lives near me, who watches a few children in her house and she charges $5 an hour per child, and I felt this was on the affordable side.
For 2 kids I would think AT LEAST $10 an hour...

PS....you might also have to consider how many meals a day you will be feeding them and who buys the diapers, wipes ect...

Two kids under 2, I would charge at least $10- $15 an hour. Does you rate include using your food, diapers, wipes, etc? I'd be sure to make sure all that is clear.

Re: Please help re: Child Care rates? URGENT!
Well, I would be going to her house with my daughter. So I would think all their meals she would provide. My daughter doesn't eat. Well she does but formula, you kWIM. ;)
Another woman was going to do it for her for $9. So I don't want to ask too much becuase then she will just go with the other woman. Hmm. So you think $10 or $11 an hour is ok? I also don't want to be taken advantage of.

Re: Please help re: Child Care rates? URGENT!
Just asked my friend - she's paying for an in -home daycare (but fully licensed) $5.75 per hour. This is for before & after care for am kindergarten.
etd. I'd say $11/hour is fine.
I'm now paying $487.50 / week for a 2 year old & 4 year old in a preschool/daycare setting.

Re: Please help re: Child Care rates? URGENT!
Well, apparently she has changed her mind. I guess $10 was too much for her for two toddlers. And, even though I went down to $9, I think she was upset that I asked for $10.
Anyway, she has changed her mind and I am now available, if anyone is interested. If anyone needs someone to look after their children or knows someone who needs this, please let me know. I have great experience and can provide excellent references.
I also have great flexibility and I will be very reasonable (as you have seen) with my rates.
Thank you so much, Denise
