PLEASE Please Help me Potty Train Lola !!
My DH and I live on the 15th floor in NYC. - Our Yorkie Lola is now 6 months old (we've had her since May) - She's going to get 'fixed' next week
I just can not get her trained !!! We tried the wee wee pad but she wanted no part of it - (which is fine w/ me b/c I prefer to have her trained to go outside)
During the day, we have her in a playpen with her bed and a wee wee pad. Sometimes I come home to 'business' on the wee wee pad, sometimes she's 'held it' for 10 hours ...... (She'll ONLY go on the wee wee pad when she's locked in the playpen)
She's crated at night - No accidents, 'goes' in the morning no problem. She's crated when we're out of the house for shorter periods of time - No accidents in the crate, she's fine.
Our problem is her random times to decide to pee or poop in our apartment ! I have tried to take her out ever few hours, I have tried to teach her to ring bells or get her leash or do SOMETHING to let me know she has to go ...I don't know if she's being spiteful or if maybe I just have to go back to consistantly taking her outside every 2 hours ......
She's been to the vet, check out, healthy .....so WHY is this little brat peeing AGAIN on my floor only an hour or two after she's successfully done her thing outside ???
Any suggestions/thought/opinions would be GREATLY appreciated !!

ok, shes 6 months old... what breed is she? small breeds can be harder to train sometimes... at 6 months she shouldnt be expected to hold her bladder for longe rthan 6 hours...
shell go on the wee wee pad inside the pen but not outside it?

Re: PLEASE Please Help me Potty Train Lola !!
My 6 month old labradoodle is finally trained, although we did have a set back when she got spayed because she was afraid to go down the stairs. To train her I finally just took away her pads, and I think it was the best thing we did, after that she had no accidents when we were at work. When we were home, I just watched her like a hawk for any signs that she has to go out. She use to pee in our dining room so anytime she made a bee line for the dining room I took it as a sign to go out. Then I will ask her "wanna go potty?" and she starts to bark because I use "go potty" outside so she knows what it means. Now unfortunately she barks to go out, but at least she is letting us know!

Re: PLEASE Please Help me Potty Train Lola !!
She's a Yorkie, normal size. Right now she's probably about 5 or 6 lbs.
I know she can't hold it for more than 6 or 7 hours, which is why I feel like I can't take the wee wee pad away from her during the day while I'm @ work (She's in a playpen) Going home during lunch to let her out is not an option, Neither DH or I even TAKE a lunch .......
When I take her out I tell her to 'go pee pee' ....when I'm getting ready to take her out I get her leash and tell her 'Come on Lola, Pee Pee outside !!'
ANYTIME she has gone to the door and barked (this has happened MAYBE 3 times) I immediately take her out, and she has gone. - But it's not a consistant thing, unfortunately, she consistantly pees on my floors !! .......
I get mixed opinions re: leaving her water out vs. taking it away ........Right now I leave it for her (except for the middle of the night) but it's in one of those big hamster water jug things ..... What do you all think ??? Am I doing something wrong ?? Or is it just going to take more time ??

Re: PLEASE Please Help me Potty Train Lola !!
at night and times I am leaving boogie out by himself (shih tzu) I limit his water consumption. He too makes mistakes sometimes and it is in the dining room-so whenever we see him going for "his" spot we take him out. He is a year old and is trained, but still makes some mistakes at times...

Re: PLEASE Please Help me Potty Train Lola !!
Katie is about 95% there at 8 months and I can give you two suggestions that have helped us:
1. Anytime we go out I bring treats and say go potty. If she poops or pees she gets a treat.
2. She has limited freedom when we are not home. When DH and I are home she can go anywhere now. When she was still having accidents she wasn't out of our site for one second and we took her outside ALOT. Originally she was crated, locked in the bedroom then full run of the first floor when we were out. The first floor was too much for her and she had accidents so now she is locked in the kitchen at night and when we are away.
3. We take her food and water away 2 hours before bed time.
4. We are consistent with potty times.
We never used wee wee pads with her. It has taken some time and trial and error (our error) but she is just about there.

Re: PLEASE Please Help me Potty Train Lola !!
Dita,
I really like your idea about using treats every time your pup pees/poos outside. I'm having the same training problem with my two year old Yorkie, Lexi - it's getting SO ridiculous how much she pees/poos in the house! So inconsistent...
I will try this and let you guys know!
Please work!!!! !!!!!!!

Re: PLEASE Please Help me Potty Train Lola !!
PS Marisa, Yorkies are NOTORIOUS for being horrible at potty training. I found this little tidbit of info AFTER buying TWO of them... lol... I would get rid of them for the world...
