With the recent events surrounding Rihanna and Chris Brown, more and more people are actually TALKING about domestic violence, which is a GOOD thing. Awareness is key. EVERYONE knows someone who has been, or is currently experiencing domestic violence in some form. It could be your sister, mother, uncle, aunt, cousin, friend, friend of a friend, etc. Noone is immune. Rihanna is lucky. She has the support of her family and friends, and she also has the resources to get the necessary medical and emotional treatment she’s going to need to get through this most difficult time. Other victims are not so lucky. Victims right here, in our own backyard, lack the necessary tools to get the help they need. They feel trapped and alone, and may have nowhere to go, or even the resources to get OUT. That’s why the Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence is so important!

The coalition has helped many here in Suffolk County, and now they need the community’s help. With the current state of the economy, they, like so many others, are suffering financially. That means programs may be cut, resources may be limited, and victims may not get the help they need. PLEASE, if you can, donate to this worthy mission….even if it’s just five dollars! EVERY penny counts. And PLEASE spread the word that the coalition needs all the help they can get! Thanks for reading.
