please read any feedback would be great

Hello ladies... a bit emotional .. not sure where to start or how to feel.. but here is my story..

DH and i were married in march of 2007, i have been off the pill for about 2 years we went for a full fertility work up throu my obgyn.. and here are my results..

Progesterone 6.0 ng/ml
Luteinizing Hormone 4.7 IU/L
Follicle Stimulating Hormone 1.5 IU/L
Prolacting 37.1 ng/ml Normal range should be 4.8 to 23.3

DH got his analysis as well and he is all fine.. so when i went to ob last night for results they told me my prolactin level was high and right off the bat he said to me i want you to go see East coast fertility so we can possibly start the Invetro process... I totally flipped and was like wait is there not any other options... i mean my girl friend had high prolactin levels and she went to an endocronologist and he gave her bromocreptine and she was preggo with in a month of taking them.. my ob was like well yea but the fastest way is to go to east coast and possibly start the invetro..

Im not ready for that yet... i want to try other options first... so now im confused not sure what to do .. should i go to east coast, should i go to endo doctor, should i go to another obgyn for 2nd opinion..

.................UPDATE
ive decided to go see a regular endo first and take it from there...

Thank you all for all your words and advise it sure helps to know that i can come on this site .. and talk about things that i may not be sure of .. so thank you all from the bottom of my acky heart..

I would definitely get a second opinion before you do anything!

2nd opinion!

My last dr wanted to start fertility treatments before she even ran any tests! I found a new dr ASAP!

get a second opinion. For most women IVF should be a last resort. There is nothing wrong with having to use it but it is expensive. You don't want to hit your fertility lifetime max with your insurance if all you really needed was an Rx to adjust a hormone level.

I agree with everyone else. If you are uncomfortable, seek a second opinion with another ob/gyn. How long have you been TTC?

ITA with the previousl posts plus I would go to an endo, especially if your friend was pregnant right after they were able to balance out her levels!

i would def get a 2nd opinion, and tell your doc your not doing invitro first... he can not make you go straight to invitro w/o trying other options...

and see the endo doc to see what they say.

first of all, if you haven't already, i would suggest seeing an endocrinologist, who can help you figure out why your hormone levels are abnormal. at the very least, i would recommend a head scan to rule out an obvious abnormality in your pituitary gland.

about the IVF, i would definitely NOT jump into that right now!! it's WAY premature. sounds like you do need some bromocriptine to start, and possibly other meds too. once your hormone levels are regulated it may not be difficult to get pregnant at all - without the money and stress of IVF!

for what it's worth, my SIL has a pituitary problem with elevated prolactin, and she was unable to get pregnant. then she started bromocriptine and got pregnant without needing any fertility treatments.

good luck!!!

ETA: by "endocrinologist" i mean a general one, not a reproductive one.

Re: please read any feedback would be great

Elkevated prolactin may indicate PCOS too-so they will probably give you a glucose tolerance test. The med for that is metformin--the endo can diagnose this but you probably will need to see an RE--Many women with PCOS get pregnant without IVF so I wouldn't listen to that.
