Please recomend a dr. to treat hashomotos

I am not looking for an ordinary endocrinologist who will prescribe levothyroxin but one who will look for the underlying cause, maybe something I am allergic to and delve deeper by prescribing supplements or changing my diet or something more. Maybe giving me different tests and really helping. I live in the Smithtown area but would travel to NYC. Doing research led me to the Broda Barnes Foundation and I am waiting for a call back from them re: finding a better dr. If anyone has any info., I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm not sure there is a treatment to "cure" Hashimoto. It's an auto-immune issue that can be suppressed with medication. I have Graves Disease which caused me to become HYPERthyroid. They "cured" my HYPERthyroidism with radioactive iodine and I am now HYPOThyroid and being treated with Synthroid. But still have the antibodies for Graves Disease. That won't go away.

Finding a good endo is close to impossible. I have been to so many. As of right now, my PCP treats my thyroid while I hunt for an endo I can trust. I used to see Dr. Aloia in Mineola but he has stopped treating. Since then, I have gone to about 3 drs. and hated each one If you find one, please share!

I have tried many and most are odd, but try Dr Harris in great neck, very nice, so far I think she is great. The best one to date.

I am going blank, there is an endo out of NUMC, excellent from what my PCP says, its a three month wait list. If I can find his name Ill write. I had an apt and had to cancel.

You need a naturopath doctor. They usually don't take insurance and it can be quite costly. I see my regular doctor for my Hashi's, but I don't believe there is any "cure" for it. Gluten free may help relieve symptoms though. Good luck!

Actually auto immune diseases can be put into remission once you eradicate the pathogens/ or toxic load that are causing this inflammatory state. My Graves Disease is in complete remission, as it was never my thyroid but the antibodies that were in high alert and attacking the thyroid. Thankfully, I didn't go along with the endo who suggested surgery or other treatments. At one point I was taking up to 9 PTU tablets a day....horrible. It lead to a ton of issues with fertility as well.

Yes, remission is possible. But that's not technically a "cure", as you can come out of remission at any time.

It has to do with eliminating the antigens and then supporting methylation. Epigenetics plays a huge role in autoimmune disorders, genes expressing. Finding a practitioner who truly understands molecular medicine is the challenge, especially one who is more integrative.

The immune system is dynamic, and can be altered once you get to the root cause (which is usually multi faceted-pathogenic/viral/environmental/diet/stress etc-the triggers for inflammation).
