Please recommend a GOOD carpet cleaner (NOT a professional-something I can use)

And not a machine to rent.
We are having DS' 1st Bday party at our house and when we had his baptism party, it was rainy which = muddy/dirty shoes. Lots of people were coming in the house to see DS' room (which I did not mind), but it did track dirt on to the carpet in his room. We rented a machine from Eckerd (now RiteAid), but I really don't want to shell out the money.

I want to buy something that will work, to have on hand incase we end up with the SAME scenario.

TIA!

We have a Hoover SteamVac it's $160 from Target. Works very well. I'm definitely glad we have it. It's amazing what that thing picks up from the carpet! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am looking for one too. I have a couple of marks in my carpet that the regular vacuum isn't picking up.

The marks are I think just crushed dust that's deep enough in the carpet that the vac isn't getting. It's not like it's a liquid/sauce stain or anything.

Does anyone have something smaller that's good? Like a handheld? I would rather not get another huge upright if I don't have to.

We bought a Hoover Steam Vac a few years ago from BBB. No complaints.

ETA: It's really easy to use. You'd be surprised how much stuff comes up!
