Please recommend your mortgage broker
We're ready to shop for a mortgage. I've been pre-approved at Chase, HSBC, and Bethpage for the same rate and as far as I can tell, pretty much the same fees / closing costs. It all looks the same to me! I think I'd rather go with a broker and have someone explain to me the best route to take, and maybe look for something cheaper/better, especially because I'll need to lock in a rate for like 90 days and that's so expensive to do.
Our REA set us up with a woman at Continental. So far, everyone our REA has recommended to us has been incompetent / generally sucky and I don't trust her at all anymore. But the woman from Continental and I have chatted 4 or 5 times (she calls me often!) so I feel weird using anyone else there. Can anyone recommend a broker who doesn't work at Continental?

I just used MCS Mortgage bankers in Patchogue. They were awesome! I did an FHA loan and got 5%. They were great to work with and I didn't have to submit papers a million times like I hear others doing. Very smooth!

I have been working with Contintenal and have found them to be really amazing! If it doesn't work out with other brokers, I really liked them.

I'm a first time home buyer, so my experience is neccesarily limited, but I have felt extremely confident in Bill Souto at Weatherstone. I think the main office is in Rockville Ctr. (He meets us at my REA office since its easier for me)
My skeptic of a husband thinks he's a tiny bit of a "yes man"- I prefer to think I'm working with an optimist.
Anyway, my sister works for one of the state agencies that oversees mortgage brokers and did a background check on Weatherstone and said there were significanly fewer compalints/ fines / etc on them that the average broker. I think it was only 1 complaint in 10 years, verses an average of 1 every year or so for the typical broker.

i LOVE my broker but i think he is transferring to PA
he is/was at Sterling National
Robert Horn
631-952-8011 and got us a much better rate than GMAC, HSBC and Wells Fargo

Thank you everyone for the suggestions!
We signed the contracts on Monday and are waiting for the sellers to do the same; as soon as we're officially in contract (hopefully tomorrow!) I'll start making some phone calls.
