Please recommend your Washing Machine ASAP
So, I just got back from Sears and decided to buy the Whirlpool Cabrio. Its a top loader w/ glass top and no agitator..all high tech with buttons and stuff ( I've only owned old school washers) I loved that it could fit huge loads and it was the next best thing to my first choice the LG frontloader, I just can't fit it in the space and open the door( its in a closet area).
Sooooo..I checked on Consumer Reports and this Cabrio is rated #1.I buy it, although it will take 2 weeks to deliver. When I came home and further investigated and read reviews..some ppl liked it but 7/10 people absolutely HATED it! Now I'm rethinking my order and most likely will cancel tomorrow.
Please,Please recommend your washer.
My DH basically said "What made you buy the biggest piece of sh%t out there?" For a grand no less.

Re: Please recommend your Washing Machine ASAP
nothing has perfect reviews...
you will always find something wrong with what you have as its common nature for people to hate "different things"
Now, i don't own a washer/dryer as i live in a co/op that doesn't allow it but here is a good place to start

Re: Please recommend your Washing Machine ASAP
I wouldn't stress. I have a regular top load whirlpool. it cleans, It does the Job.
My SIL has the Cabrio and the only complaint I heard was
1. you can't open the top after you start it it locks
2. It was so big (she has 4 kids so she was all about it) that she had to go back out and get the matching dryer because the loads were so big that they didn't fit in the old dryer

Re: Please recommend your Washing Machine ASAP
Sounds like your SIL is satisfied overall.
Tom- thats why I decided to get it..it had great reviews in the Consumer Reports but ppl were trashing it on regular reviews I found just by google-ing.
Thanks guys. I still think I'm gonna nix it and pick an old school washer. Any rec's????

Re: Please recommend your Washing Machine ASAP
i have the whirlpool cabrio washer and dryer and LOVE them!! i LOVE that i can fit sooo much in there (just today i did a weeks worth of clothes and 4 fluffy towels in one load!) and its so nice and quiet. the clothes come out super clean, and its HE so it uses less water and energy.
the ONLY complaint i have is that sometimes jeans and pants end up twisted because the washer spins them so well. BUT, i figured out that if you just kind of shake them out real quickly before you throw them in the dryer, they come out of the dryer perfectly fine.

If you don't mind me asking, how long have you had them? It seems all the reviews are complaints about some F51 electrical glitch.
I can't believe I'm stressing this much over a washing machine..I've bought cars and my home with more ease

i've had them about 6 months so far with no problems.... running about 3 loads a week in them.

Re: Please recommend your Washing Machine ASAP
My IL's have the same one for over a year and after an initial phase of dislike, I've come to really like the Cabrio. I'm thinking of getting the same one when we buy our washer/dryer.
You can open it after the cycle starts - you have to hit the pause button and wait for it to unlock, throw in whatever you forgot, then hit start again.
I also find that in order for shirts or pants to not be as wrinkled because the machine does spin the clothes so well, you need to throw them in the dryer for 5 minutes before you line dry, assuming you line dry some items.
Overall though, it uses less water and gets the job done.

Re: Please recommend your Washing Machine ASAP
i also wanted to add that a lot of times online, you'll find only the bad reviews- people who are unhappy with the product get out their "anger" by posting online... if consumer reports gave it a good rating, i would trust them over anything else. is there anyway you could return it if you're really unhappy with it? a lot of times they'll allowe returns within a certain time period....

Re: Please recommend your Washing Machine ASAP
I def. think you have to take online surveys with a grain of salt. For example, I got the whirlpool frontloader set and I absolutely love it...but never posted a review. I've had it since November with no probs, knock on wood. But...I'm sure there are ten people complaining about it right now.
I loved the cabrio but I needed stackables.

I'm no help then Michelle... I have the LG front loader washer and dryer, I can't say enuff great stuff about it. I say go to PC Richards, and have them educate you on this stuff, thats what helped me make my decision.

first class all the way my dear friend..only the best.
Will you let me do laundry at your house??
I canceled the order because I just had a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. I have no luck & I know I'd be one of the ppl with the dreaded flaws.
So, back to finding a new machine.
Thanks for everyones input.
