I want to die right now, curl up in a ball and DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

I open my email and STUPIDLY click on something I knew was fishy, BAM a virus takes over my whole computer, im on the phone with HP talking to a guy from India,he walk me through restoring windows, says it will not effect my pics, files. BAM all my julianna pics GONE, all my work from grad school GONE. I am in tears, no literally I have tears falling as I type, I cant....

At the end of my degree Im required to have a portfolio, all the work ive done, its gone....I might as well just quit now.

My juju pics, some are on facebook, some are gone forever.

My DH bought me an External hard drive for this reason! I didnt back it up, now Im paying.

Its 1:30am, I cant sleep, im crying, my DH has gone to bed. I wanna die.

PLEASE SAVE YOUR WORK SOMEWHERE ELSE.


If anyone is computer savvy at all and knows how to get my stuff back (if thats even possible) PLEASE let me know. I would be forever grateful.

Not tech savvy but I know our helpdesk guys have recovery software that works well. There have only been a few times where the hard drive was fried & everything lost.

My uncle works with computers and awhile ago he told me there''s always a way to get your info back. My laptop crashed and luckily he was able to get it back for me. But he did mention there are people you can send it away to- sometimes it can cost a few hundred $$ (if its very serious) but there's always a very good chance they can get your work back.

You can almost always get your stuff back. I've read stories of drives that were in a fire, and they could still restore some of the files on the disk.

I don't know how much it will cost, but based on what you're describing, I think almost any amount may be worth the expense.

Send me a fm about what u think the guy had u do.. My dh is a comp. engineer, does this stuff daily. I live in jersey but he may be able to do remote access. I thought I lost all my sons baby pics, but he was able to get them back. Ill tell him when he gets home from work!

Also, don't use your computer until you talk with a data recovery person. The more you use the PC, the more you write data to the HD, and the harder it is to recover stuff.

The guy from HP put the computer back to "factory settings"... so the computer is virus free and functioning but again, everything I had was gone.

I cant really afford to spend a few hundred dollars to recover it, like at all. In the past few days I have calmed down a lot and realized there is really nothing I can do but learn my lesson and save all my stuff in more than one place.

I had the same thing happen to me. I lost EVERYTHING. My resume, pics of DS #2s entire life. I used this company:

You send them your hard drive and the assess the damage. They were only able to do a partial recovery for me, but I did get back *most* of my pictures. I didn't get back my resume but was able to recover it off a website I had used to apply for a job.

It wasn't cheap BUT they only charge you based on what they can recover. I spent about $1K.

I really feel your pain.

I'm so sorry. I had a harddrive die and while I probably backed up 90%, the things that were missing, upset me. I keep buying new SD cards for the camera, b/c I like the additional back up.

Since you restored, I don't think that you will be able to get the files back on your own. Like others have said there are companies that restore. I hope you have luck. The way I look at it, in 20 years how much would you pay to get those baby pictures back.


We use www.dropbox.com. it automatically syncs whatever you put in specific folders that you designate to sync. and it's not affected by fire/theft, etc
