Please say a prayer for my friend and answer a question about what I can send her
A friend of mine had some very serious complications from an operation that she had about 10 days ago. She is still in the hospital. When she gets out, it will be a slow recovery and she will need another surgery in a few months. Please send good thoughts. Her husband says she is very sad.
I want to send a gift but I want it to be something that she can have during her recovery as a reminder that I am thinking of her. I think she will appreciate something that is a reminder that she is in my thoughts, even if it is not something practical. She will be on a very restricted diet, so I do not want to send food.
Also, she still has my baby announcement on her refrigerator and she likes babies. She has older kids. I just got new photos of the baby done. If I give her a photo with her "get well' gift, does that seem too self-centered? I think it's fine but I'm not sure.

as for a gift a fridge mag. with a smal pic would be a nice touch. but maybe offer to cook a meal or two. or help with house work. you said she has older kids which i am sure they will help but it's never like an adult cleaning.. KWIM

Is she a movie fan??? Get some old movies on DVD...a fan of some tv show???..get her the boxed set. (Ive seen every Golden Girls 100 times but I still love watching it) Will she be sitting there with her laptop???...maybe a game type thing...How about Soduko or crossword type books??? How about a magazine subscription or a bunch of magazines??...Or you could do a gift basket with a mixture of stuff..
How about some nice aromatherapy candles? I dont know much about that stuff but I know there are scents for different things...Some nice lotions???..
I know you said food is out but how about a nice tea assortment???
And throwing DS's pic in an envelope is fine....you'd know if this was the type of person that would take that the wrong way.
(PS..I want one of the pictures in question BTW)

Re: Please say a prayer for my friend and answer a question about what I can send her
i recovered from abdominal surgery last Feb. It got me very down.
My boss did the best thing. She prepared a care package for me. She got me a portable DVD player with a bunch of chick flicks, some mad libs, some slippers and neck pillow from the spa that you heat up and a few books. This was so unbelievable. She also sent some gorgeous flowers separately. She also put in some gossip mags. Everything light and funny. Months later DH and I still did the mad libs. It was a gift I will never forget.
I felt so cared for and it was so wonderful.
I hope your friend feels better soon.

Thanks, I got some good ideas!!! Mad-libs would be right up her alley and she can do them with her kids or visitors. Magazines would be, too, but I am not sure which ones.

i would say your best bet is to make your own basket!! i would put together a get well basket with magazines, movies, books, a pair of cozy comfy knit socks can't think of anything else..
i wish your friend a speedy recovery!
