Re: please share your induction stories
I went in on a Wed night and the doctor inserted Cervidil-I had to stay in bed for 2 hours and then I was allowed to walk around. I was having mild contractions all night but nothing too bad. The next morning I was still only 2 cm dilated but the doctor broke my water and then the contractions started coming fast and furious. I got an epidural a few hours later and was also started on Pitocin to regularize my contractions. By 3ish I was fully dilated. I pushed for about 2 1/2 hours and Jenna was born at 5:57.

Re: please share your induction stories
i was scheduled to be induced 11 days after my due date. i went into labor 9 days past my due date and had the baby 10 days late. i hope the baby comes before they have to induce you! i did still have to have pitocin though because my water broke and i wasn't having regular contractions. i got an epidural a few hours later and from then on it was a breeze! good luck and lots of labor vibes!

Re: please share your induction stories
I went into hospital on Saturday morning, Sat afternoon got a tickle, nothing happened. Sunday morn, got another pitocin tickle. Nothing happened. Monday Morning Dr was able to break my waters and got onto a drip, went from very slight back contractions to FULL BLOWN labor within minutes!!! It was amazingly surprisingly painful, then I got some gas and air, then I hallucinated that I was in a Prince song, then I got an epidural. Then I was fine. Oh, then I had a baby.

Re: please share your induction stories
Good Luck. You will be fine.
I was 1 week over due, hot, miserable and gigantic. It was July 2004 and at 5'4, I gained 42lbs.....
I went in to be checked and monitored at the drs office. he said that there was not enough fetal activity in the sonogram, to go home and pack up for the hospital. I cried all the way home. Called dh and family, showered and washed the kitchen floor (why, I don't know).
When I got there they hooked me up to an iv and monitor. They gave me cervidil at 2pm. This was a Thursday. At night, they started the Pitocin. That is when the contractions started...OOOWWWWW!!!! I had an epi at 1 cm.. Pain all night. Had a new epi done...still in pain. Got a fever, a uti and very high blood pressure. Water broke at 7am on friday.
I was at 3 cm and stayed there... All of this continued till 7pm on friday night. At that time I begged the Dr for a c-section. He did it. Not because of my begging, but because I didn't progress passed 3cm for over 24 hrs.
C-section was quick and painless. I was loopy from everything that was going on.
Ava was 9lbs and 21 inches. Recovery wasn't too bad. If I have another child it will be a scheduled c-section, so that should be much better.

Are you sure you want to hear my induction story? I don't want to scare you!
I'll make a long story short...at 30+ hrs, my induction was not the norm. I had to have 3 doses of cervidil and ended up with a c-section.
But if you care to read the full unrated version, here it is

Re: please share your induction stories
I wasn't induced, but I was helped along...
I went into labor on my own, 8 days past my EDD
I had steady contractions that weren't progressing so after 30+ hours of that, they sent me to the hospital to get checked out.
I was 5-6cm when I got there and fully effaced, but my contractions (while very painful) still weren't close enough together to be productive (they were 6-7 minutes apart). They checked the baby and she was doing fine through the contractions.
So they broke my water with the hopes that would get things moving. It helped, but not enough. By this point I was exhausted, so they gave me some stadol to relax. It was nice for a little bit but it made me loopy and I didn't like that.
Next step, pitocin. I didn't want the pit without an epi, so I finally caved and asked for it. The pitocin did the trick, and my stubborn munchkin finally arrived (45 hours later!)

Your story freaks me out a little, but only because a friend of mine just had a very similar experience.

Re: please share your induction stories
I was 1cm and 80% effaced. I went into the hospital on Monday night at 6pm and had cervidil put in. At midnight my contractions were really strong and I couldn't sleep so they gave me a shot of staydal. In the morning my water broke at 8am and by 9:30 they started pitocin. I was still only 1 cm dilated at this point. At noon I was in so much pain that they gave me another shot of staydal (this was horrible and it really messed up my head I guess the night before I just went to sleep and didn't notice) and it relaxed my body enough that I was able to get to 4cm and got the epi. For a few hours I was pain free and got to 7cm. At 3:30 the pressure started and it was worse then the contractions. I stayed at 7cm for almost 3 hours and ended up having to have a C-section. DD was almost 9pds and face up (which was why I felt so much pressure). I was out of it for most of the surgery, but all in all it was fine. Recovery was ok and when I look at my DD I would do it all over the same way if I had too. My story sounds worse than it actually was. Next time I was have a scheduled C.
Don't worry...however it happens you'll be so happy with the end result.

Re: please share your induction stories
i was given cervadil and was told its pretty rare that it will put you into labor. the plan was to have cervadil that night and start the pitocin in the am. 1 hour after i got the cervadil, i was in full blown labor w/ contractions every minute and a half. i got my epidural about 3 hours after the cervadil. they started me on pitocin the next morning bc the contractions had died down. a few hours later the dr. broke my water and 2 hours after that i was ready to push. had the twins an hour after that. all in all, labor lasted from 8pm thurs night till 3pm on fri. i did not have to have a c-section.
good luck!!!

I wanted to say that if you have the choice to wait to go into labor on your own, no matter how impatient you are, I would advise it! My induction was okay, but it was LONG and I was in mild labor from Friday night until Monday, and then once I got that drip, I was FLYING and it was pretty bloody scary! With my next baby, I am going to wait to go into labor on my own! I was impatient this time because my parents were here, but I was feeling good and I could have waited.

Re: please share your induction stories
I was induced with both of my children and for me, I wouldn't have it any other way.
I knew I was having the baby so I was prepared for that. I was admitted to the hospital and was not in labor so I knew I wouldn't have to worry about my water breaking. I checked into my room, the nurse gave me an enima (so I didn't have to worry about that embarrasing moment - highly recommended JMO). By 11:00 I was given pitocen and then had to wait unti l10 cm. With my first daughter, it took alot longer to get to the required cm to receive my epidural. I think with her I got it at 3:00. With my second daughter I got it much earlier - maybe 1:00. (FYI - both children - I had an epidural at 3 cm - yes I'll admit it I was a wimp but the dr offered it and I took it!) After that, it was a waiting game. Once I was 10 cm I was able to push and both my girls were born within 3 pushes.
The downside of being induced - for me. I got sick both times so make sure after you have your son, ask them to leave you with a bed pan in case you do get sick. For whatever reason, I was very nauceous. And not sure about the other girls, but at my hospital, once you have the baby, they kind of leave you all alone. My husband went with my daughter and the doctor went somewhere and the nurses all left me and there I was feeling sick. So just be prepared for that.
Also, you will still feel contractions for a little bit until the pitocin wears off!
Good luck, you'll be fine. I found the unknown to be worse than the actual delivery - this was just me. Some girls might say I'm nuts!! Good luck!

The Dr. doesn't really want me going much past my due date because of how big the baby is, and she knows how badly I would like to have a vaginal delivery. The bigger he gets, the less likely that will happen.

Re: please share your induction stories
my doctor scheduled an induction for my due date, so I went in at night, checked in and then was taken to the room, got hooked up to an iv and the fetal monitor.
after an hour, I was only a 1cm dilated so they put this balloon like tool inside to open my cervix, a hour later after they did an internal my water broke and I was lucky that after all, I wasn't induced.
I got my epi, and all through the night, I would say every hour I was pretty much fully dilated.
my daughter was born the next day at 9:45 after 15 minutes of pushing.
You never know, good luck !!!

Re: please share your induction stories
I was induced with Melanie. The contractions were very mild, I barely felt them. I went to 5cm before I got an epi, but I will say that I wasn't in pain when I got it. I've heard people say that contractions from pitocin are worse, but I thought the ones I had without were far worse. Labor went fast, about 5 hours. It was a good experience, but my recovery was harder than my other deliveries. I felt like my body was very sore and I was so tired.

I think that those weight issues are usually wrong though. I seem to read a lot of people saying that their scans told them that they are having HUGE babies, and when the babies are born, they weigh like 7 lbs!
Good Luck!

Re: please share your induction stories
I went in on a Thursday and started Pitocin at 10am. Contractions were regular but my water was not breaking so the Dr broke my water around 3:15pm. My contractions were quite bearable until the water breaking. I was laughing, chatting, watching tv. I did sit in the glider (before water breaking) for awhile because the motion was very soothing. I got my epidural soon after and was a happy mommie to be! Around 8:30ish I felt the sensation that I had to pee really bad...you know that pressure? (I had a catheter). My SIL said to call the nurse and I said no, it wasn't painful, just annoying. The nurse came in to check me and said NOT to push because the baby was right there! That pressure I was feeling was DD coming out!!
I pushed for all of 15 minutes TOPS....and she was bron at 9:27pm

Re: please share your induction stories
Very quickly Cervidil was placed 8 pm, removed 8am, broke water at 11am, started Pitocin, labored on my own for 2.5 hours to 3 cm dilated, epidural was placed, 5 pushes at 4:02 pm and my beautiful daughter was born. It was a fabulous delivery!! Good Luck

Re: please share your induction stories
I copied this from a poat I wrote on 5/15/06:
Here is my birth story:
On May 3rd, I went to the hospital in early labor and was sent home as many of you know. I then had contractions for about a six days and I was still 2cm and 60% effaced, same as May 3rd.
I had a doctors appointment on May 9th and went in for a non stress test and exam. The non stress test revealed that Gracie's heart rate was fine, but I was still having contractions that were 3-5 minutes apart. The doctor said that this does not look good because he felt there is a reason why she is not coming out. He basically told us that if I came in to be induced that I would have an 95% chance of a c-section. Knowing that I did not want a c-section he said that we could wait another 3-4 days to see if she came on her own, but he felt it was highly doubtful that she would. Since she was not in danger, he gave us this option. Well we stayed at DH's moms that night and decided to talk there. We decided to go in for the induction on Wed. May 10th because I was in such pain with all of the contractions.
We went in for the induction Wed. morning. After 4+ hours of Pitocin, there was still no change in my cervix or my effacement. Doctor said that we should proceed with the c-section. He also said the if Pitocin did not do anything there is a definite reason why she is not coming out. I was scared but very excited. My doctor was AMAZING and the surgical team talked me through EVERYTHING and they were reassuring me the whole time. Before The c-section The doctor asked me if I wanted music because he likes to have music on while he is operating. He asked if I liked U2, and I said they were one of my favorite bands. He had every U2 album on his Ipod and he plugged it into the speakers. I felt awesome. Then I got my spinal/epidural and that went well.
The c-section was WAY better than I expected it to be and DH even saw DD being born! They let me hold her while they stitched me up and DH & I were both crying tears of joy. The reason why she could not come on her own was that her umbilical cord was wrapped around her shoulders, acting like a sling. Therefore, everytime she would decend into my pelvis, the "sling" would pull her up again. The doctor said that even if I had waited a few days, it would have been a c-section anyway.
The staff at NSUH Manhasset were absolutely amazing. I had no issues with pain meds, doctors, nurses, etc. Everyone was nicer than the next person. I shared a room with a another mommy and she was the sweetest person, too. My incision is healing nicely and I was walking around day 2. I feel great and I am very surprised by that. I thought The recovery from a c-section would be a nightmare, but it is not.

HTH and Good luck to you!!! You will be fine, I promise!
