Please talk to me about Maternit21 and such tests . . .
I'm going to be asking my doctor but just doing a little research before my next appointment. It wasn't offered to me and I'm not yet 35 so I don't know if it will be. Does anyone know what qualifies you for this testing? I understand that it's more informative than the NT scan, so I'm wondering if I could opt to have that instead. What is the difference between the two?
Also, I hear that payment is strange for this test. Are there any insurance plans that cover it?

My guess is that most insurance companies will only pay it if you're over 35 or are high risk in another way (family history, etc)

Re: Please talk to me about Maternit21 and such tests . . .
I just came back from my first OB appt. I'm 10 weeks and was told that my doctor does panorama for everyone. They took the blood today. I asked about payment and he assured me they had an agreement with them and they only take what the insurance pays.

I'm under 35 and had the panorama test done. I got a bill from the lab but my OB office said to disregard it and I don't have to pay it.

Interesting! If you did the panorama test did you also do an NT scan?

Yes, I will be. I'm scheduled for it in 2 weeks.

I was 35 when I delivered so I had the test done and covered by insurance. If I wasn't over 35, it would've cost me over $12k out of pocket. Not worth it IMO.

I had the maternity 21. I am over 35, my insurance covered it 100%. I did not have the NT. That was unnecessary since the Maternit is a lot more accurate for downs. I did have however have the AFP at 16 weeks.

I'm 29 years old and i had the maternit21 done a month ago because before that they realized i had a chromosome abnormality (muscle deformity), my insurance covered the test. The results thankfully were negative.

I am over 35 and had the Maternity 21 test done, it was not covered by my insurance and I was billed $2700 for it. The lab that does the test subsidized this cost however and I owed about $150 in the end.

Re: Please talk to me about Maternit21 and such tests . . .
We were told the insurance company will cover. I had the test and received a large check from the insurance company and never received a bill from the lab. No idea what to do with this check as it sits in my house, I should probably call someone

Re: Please talk to me about Maternit21 and such tests . . .
I had this done 3 years ago. It was totally covered by my insurance. I was over 35 and my daughter showed markers for Down syndrome. I had it done at 22 weeks. Thank god all was good.

I wanted to have it done. The first doctor I saw in my group said it was fine. Then when I went for my 12 week appointment the doctor I saw that time wouldn't budge on it because I'm only 30. I ended up just having the NT.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to see what they say when I go for the NT scan. I was hoping to not have to go for both tests but I guess it's not that big of a deal.
