Please talk to me about table food

So the dr said I give DS anything now, he is 8 months old with 7 teeth. I make some table food for him and he barely eats 1/2 of what I give him. He doesnt get it into his mouth yet so he just opens it for me, otherwise he'd be playing for an hour with it.

When I do purees, he eats 4 cubes with a Tbs of cereal with that. That was a lot to me, but he would always finish. I've given him:

banana pancake (finished almost silver dollar size)
slice of american cheese (eats 1/4, after a meal)
egg yolk (ate 1/2)
beef with cheese (ate 1/2 of white castle size burger)
macaroni & cheese with pastina (ate maybe 2oz)

Do you think since its taking longer for him to chew and swallow that he's realizing he's not as hungry?

I know food is just really for texture and practice, and he does drink 20oz of formula daily. Does that sound right though?

What other ideas do you have for me? I just started egg yolks today. I only just started adding cheese to stuff too.

Re: Please talk to me about table food

I am now doing about 1/2 table food and 1/2 purees. They are like Constantine, most (if not practically all of it, in Christian's case) ends up on the floor if I just put it on the tray. So I put a little bit on the tray so they can try doing it themselves, but most of it I hand feed. I give them purees and other chunkier stuff off the spoon in addition because I feel like otherwise they don't get enough. I am just finishing up my freezer supply and I do have some jars left, after that is done I probably will start eliminating the purees altogether, other than breakfast with their oatmeal. I am still giving mixed grain cereal at dinner even though my ped said I could stop.

As far as what to give, they have had ravioli (cheese and also grilled veggie which they LOVED), all kinds of cheese, egg yolk, bagels, bread, all different ripe fruits cut up into small pieces, cheerios of course, chicken, ground beef, pancakes (they each eat practically one whole one), waffles, yogurt, avocado...can't think of anything else right now. This weekend I am planning to make some meatballs and meatloaf to freeze for the week. I was also thinking about making stuffing (kind of random, I know).

ETA: they also drink four 7oz bottles. Don't forget they are peanuts - they were 18lbs 5oz and 17lbs 12oz at their 9 month appt 2 weeks ago. I try to feed them as much as possible Chat Icon

My dd likes avocado and banana cut up...toast with butter or you can melt cheese on a slice, pastina(with butter/parm cheese-once with shredded chicken mixed in), cheerios, yogurt, the egg white of a hard boiled egg, chicken parm cut up, soups, mashed potatoes...I cut up anything we are eating, but those are things she always eats. I want to try sweet potato fries. If I feel like she didn't eat enough or is spitting out or throwing whatever solids I gave her then I give her a jar.
