Please tell me I'm not a bad puppy mommy

We're leaving to go upstate (6+ hr drive) tomorrow at 3PM. My pups get pretty car sick if they have the smallest amt of food/water in their tummy. I was going to get up early give them a little food (milkbones if they don't eat the dry) and water and then nothing else until we get where we are going.

I just feel so bad/guilty not feeding them all day. But if I can keep them from getting sick in the car that's good for them (and me)

ETA: what does everyone else do?

I think it's ok. Some days Dallas doesn't eat much by choice.

We give them cheerios to get something in their stomachs if they won't eat their food before the drive. Not alot, just a bit to coat their stomachs. My female throws up every car ride no matter what.

Just keep offering them fluids if they are vomiting during the trip. They will eat like champs when you get to the destination, don't worry.Chat Icon

Have you talked to your vet about it? There are pills you can give dogs for motion sickness

hershey always throws up in the car if he just ate

thats what we do too -- we'll feed him 2+ hours before we leave & then not feed him anything until we get where we are going

normally, there is about a 10 hour gap between his meals... we feed him breakfast around 7-8am and dinner around 5-6pm

my dog gets very car sick - any car trip over 15 minutes.

Our vet said it was ok to give him 1/2 tablet of dramamine - and its works great - hes never gotten sick when he takes it.

thank you everyone. i fed them at 7 and still have water down for them. the vet said just keep doing what we are doing. food very early and keep the air circulating in the car. we give them a little bendryl just to help them relax (i feel terrible doing it but if it helps them)

i just feel so guilty not giving them food all day. buy you are right they will eat when we get there.
