Please tell me my baby will be okay UPDATED
Im a nervous wreck still. He has a cold and is only 2 1/2 wks old. we are going back to the pediatrician today to make sure its not turning into anything else. Im just so worried that it will. Ive heard what can happen if he strikes afever. OMG I wouldnt know what to do with myself! Anyone know of any babies that had colds this young and it didnt turn into anything else.
Signed,
Most worried mommy ever!!!

Re: Please tell me my baby will be okay
I'm sure he'll be fine. Congetion is common in newborns - and you are being proactive in his care (which is the most important thing).
I know how you feel. My daughter was sick at 2 weeks (and is FINE now). It absolutely sucks

Re: Please tell me my baby will be okay
My son had RSV and pneumonia at 3 weeks old.
Just try to keep him on a slight incline, even when he is sleeping. Use the cool mist humidifier. Make sure to feed him, keep track of how many ounces he is taking in, and how many wet diapers he has. Keep his nose clean.
Try not to worry too much, it will be ok! I hope he feels better soon!

99 is OK. 100.2 and up is your mark.

Re: Please tell me my baby will be okay
Its normal for babies temperatures to increase throughout the day. As long as it doesn't get to 100.4, you are in the clear.
DD had a high temp at 6 weeks (but wasn't sick - long story) but they almost sent me to ER - I know how scary it is. I was crying when they told me it was a possibility. Hang in there and we will there is no fever

Re: Please tell me my baby will be okay
Ds had a cold at 2 weeks also. Lots of steam showers and saline drops and and patting on the back (loosen that mucous so it doesn't turn into anything worse!)

Re: Please tell me my baby will be okay
DD was congested around that age and making funny noises when she inhaled. DH and I freaked out and called the doctor in the middle of the night. She advised us and DH drove to the store at 3am to get little noses...something or other and we stood in the bathroom with the shower on hot for the steam. It seemed to help a great deal.

My niece got RSV when she came home from the hospital and she's a healthy kindergartener now! No worries! Just give some extra TLC.

Re: Please tell me my baby will be okay
HI,
Well we are back from the doctor and they did a rectal temp to be sure and it was 98.2. They said 99% of the time babies will not need to go to the hospital but in rare cases yes. I told him everything I've been fearing and he said we will just keep an eye on him. Just keep taking his temp and watch him closely they told me. He also said that you just have to get past the worst days of a cold which is about the 3rd of 4th day.
Thank you to everyone for your kind words and thank you for understanding how I feel. I hope IM not sounding too paranoid. I just couldn't imagine having to bring my baby to the hospital . It would break my heart.
Im going to try the steam with the shower tonight and give him some more little noses drops.
I will keep you all updated. Thanks again.

I agree with Steph. It's not paranoia to be wary of a cold in a newborn. It's smart! Good work!
