Please tell me why I feel guilty

So I am buying a car. I am doing the negotiating. Mainly over the phone with this one dealer. Getting out of the house and doing business with the kids is hard so the phone works for me. I found the car I want. I get one price from him, it sounds totally resonable considering the Invoice vs. MSRP. I call another dealership and the price is lower and the monthly payment is lower as well. I go back to Dealer #1 and tell him. He gives me the "it's a get you in the door price". I call another dealer and dealer #3, without knowing I am shopping around gives me the same price as dealer #2 (confused yet?). I go back to #1 and tell him that I have 2 prices within a dollar of each other and his price is $20 a month more than the other 2 for the exact same car. Then he tells me to go to the Company Website and do the Financing Calculator which comes out to the same number dealers #2 and #3 gave me (within a dollar or 2). He sounds dumfounded on the phone. Like it came out of left field and he felt like an ***. He played the "I am going to print this out and show it to my boss" line. I have yet to get a call back. For some reason I feel bad getting the price down, although I shouldn't the money is better in my pocket than in his but I feel almost bad for him. I would be a terrible car salesmanChat Icon

I followed... Why not just buy it from dealer #2 or #3 if that's the price you are looking for? Are you bound to buy from dealer #1??

I'm so excited you had all this, so when I go this weekend I can say "I know that all these places are selling this exact car for this much. If you can't meet it I'm headed there."

Dealer #1 is much more convenient to her.

Yeah, good luck finding one that does. DH does, he takes care of his customers. His place is in Queens, he has a customer in Bayshore and Centerport that he delivers cars to them, and loaners, if they need service. It's the old mom and pop service that's kept them in business since 1944. Chat Icon

My dad used to do that for his clients!! How funny. I remember going with him in other peoples cars to give them back to them.

The dealer here offered to bring me the car and sign all the papers. The other 2 are atleast 25-35 minutes away from me.

Karen - if you are talking about Honda their salesman get a set amount of money per car they sell that is not based on the price. SO don't feel bad for haggling!!

We are getting a Honda Odyssey. I am so tired of telling them to do better. It's really quite annoying. They want our money and I want to keep our moneyChat Icon And of course DH leaves me to do this all on my own.Chat Icon I am thankful for Edmunds with their pricing. I knew what to aim for!External Image

Out of curiosity, what's the financing like on the Odyssey?

Re: Please tell me why I feel guilty

I would work something out with dealership 2/3 as you will have less problems then trying to hagggle #1. So its close...thats great. 25 mins driving is going to cost you at most 12 bucks or so (20-30 miles) each way

vs...

driving close, dealing with an a-hole that has already not helped you and prehaps work against you when you finally come in.

Take your $$ some place else.

Does convience outweigh saving money and dealing with people that get things right the first time?
