Please tell me WWYD.......
So it is DD christening this weekend and we were thinking of getting her ears pierced on Saturday...... a very good friend of mine has said that she would pay for it and with all my family and her godmother in town we would all go together .....
so i asked my ped if he did it and he said yes but not until they are 6 months old ( DD is only just 3 months )
so should i use his direction as mine or should i go on saturday with the family??? also do you think that she would be in to much pain and discomfort for her christening the next day?? i really dont know what is best
thankyou for your thoughts

Re: Please tell me WWYD.......
My pediatrician doesn't do it either but recommended i do it as ealry as possible becasue she's less likely to play with them and they won't get infected. I am glad i did it when she was three months old by the time she was six months she would be touching them non stop. And she was in no pain didn't even cry when we got them pierced.

Re: Please tell me WWYD.......
I would ask my ped if there is a reason he waits until 6 months or is it just his preference.

Re: Please tell me WWYD.......
I would take her to Piercing Pagoda in the mall and get her ears pierced! I had DDs done at 8 months. My ped. REFUSES to pierce ears until the child "can ask for it herself".
I would give her a little Tylenol ahead of time, but in Sunrise Mall (where I had DDs done) they number her lobes with this spray stuff first.

Re: Please tell me WWYD.......
This is just my personal opinion and no offence to any moms who feel otherwise...but I disagree with piercing baby's ears. And this is coming from someone with 7 piercings!
But please don't take your children to places in the mall like Piercing Pagoda if you do decide to do it! The guns they use for the piercings are not sterile, they can cause more tissue trauma than regular piercing needles and often the backs of the earrings are way too tight against the skin to allow for proper healing. I think it's safe to bet most of us had our ears pierced this way and turned out fine, but i'd say it's not worth a risk.

I know piercing shops can seem a little 'scary' but your child would likely be better off having their lobes pierced by a professional, even if it might be a little pricier than the mall. Just my 2 cents :D

Re: Please tell me WWYD.......
My DD was just shy of 4 months and forgot about them by the time we got in the car. She'll be fine. I would do them.

Re: Please tell me WWYD.......
Yeah there's lots of bad press in the piercing community about the guns in recent years!
Anyhow I hope I didn't come off as preachy - I just wanted to share the info because I know a lot of people (including myself not too long ago) don't know there is any risk with the guns. I'm not a professional but as someone who's healed a bunch of piercings over the years, I would say if you do decide to go to the mall or a similar place to have your baby's ears done, just be extra mindful of the healing process. Oh and definitely don't clean the piercings with alcohol or peroxide like a lot of places tell you to do...they seem like they would do a good job at cleaning/killing the germs but they can really irritate the sensitive skin and the wound. You're better off cleaning it with Dial antibacterial soap once or twice a day!
Just looking out for your kids' ears

Re: Please tell me WWYD.......
My ped does them at 6 mths. He did tell me if went anywhere else to make SURE they use disposable equipment.
With that being said, I will wait to have the ped do it as I am paranoid about those things. And I would never do it the day before a Christening. She may feel irritable for her big day.
This is coming from someone who loves her earrings and has 3 holes in each ear (not that I use 2 of them in each ear anymore though...)

Re: Please tell me WWYD.......
Honestly I wouldn't do something I specifically asked the ped about and was told no to - but each person is different. I would have probably asked him why he said no - b.c that honestly can make a difference in answering your question. DD doesn't have her ears pierced but if I had the choice between a ped and piercing pagoda place I would choose the ped hands down - esp b.c you don't know how clean the PP instruments are.
