DH is a plumber and he said anywhere from 8-10K depending on where are the lines are etc.

It will likely depend on a number of things. Do you already have gas in your home? Is there gas in the area? How far do you need to extend the current plumbing?
DH and I had our washer and dryer moved into another room in the basement and a gas line extended (not too far though) and we paid 1000 I believe. we also got quotes much higher than that.
