Plus Size Affordable Dresses?
My mother is looking for a dress to wear to a wedding. She needs a plus size, and hopes to spend no more than $200.
We tried Estelle's but everything we liked only had a 14 or 16.

where does your mom live?
there is a store in wantagh, it's kind of snobby but they have pretty things, it's called Totally You. they carry all sizes.

they are closed until thrusday though, i don't know how long she has to search for the dress.
did you try a store like lord and taylor os saks? they are both on franklin ave in garden city and usually have a good selection. also try macy's in manhasset.

I am having flash backs to shopping for a dress for her to wear to my wedding!
Thanks so much - I am going to try these places. I hope she finds something soon - this is making her very sad!
eta: she tried some of the major dept stores but the plus dept is really lacking, and everything she found was $500+!

Two things...one...a place called Dina's in Plainview...two...nordstrom.com and lord and taylor..my mom actually got a dress for our wedding at lord and taylor but had ordered a few online and returned in store with no issues...their prices were not bad! Good luck!

I find my mom's dress for my wedding there...there is definitely plus size and I think I ended up paying about $40 for it 
I shopped the one on 7th ave in the city, but I imagine they have some plus sized dresses at their other locations.

Catherines will have plus-size 'dressy' dresses. There are various locations around the island.
ETA - if you check their website there is a section with special occasion dresses - might save you a stop on your dress hunt. The site is: catherines.com

The Lane Bryant in Roosevelt Field Mall usually has dressier stuff.
I was pretty impressed with the Dress Barn Woman selection in the Deer Park outlets also.

til - this is where my mom gets all her dresses for weddings - the women that work in the store have been there FOREVER and are so lovely....she raves about them!
