ok, just finished watching the whole 5 minutes.

while I do agree that generational welfare is a huge issue, this is NOT the way to mitigate it Chat Icon

I am in the minority here, when I say, I support mandatory sterilization.

It is so frustrating to hear my students who are seniors in high school trading tricks to scam the system. Most of them who have one child are pregnant again. The more children, the more benefits. It is that simple.

I have also worked with students who are the products of mothers with drug addictions, sexually transmitted diseases, and lack of education. Most of their offsprings don't have a shot in this world. Many of them have severe learning disabilities, mental retardation, ADHD, and other issues.

The sad part is that the cycle will repeat itself because they don't know any better. It is really scary when you have an entire class of students with IQs betwee 72-67.

nope, even if it's offered up as an 'elective' program, it has a serious stink of prior genocidal programs throughout the world..... we already waterboard, we don't have to travel deeper down that ugly road

not to veer way off topic here but here's a scenario for you...

how would you feel about waterboarding if kidnappers got a hold of your DH (god forbid) and were torturing him while they wait for millions of $'s in ransom. the FBI catches one of the kidnappers who they think knows for sure where your DH is being held. would you be against waterboarding in this instance?

yes, becuase you can't trust info extruded through torture.... and torturing one of them just may serve my DH's torturer's to do even more extreme things as the situation evolves.

IMO, torture is never the answer.

how do you know you can't trust it? if that method didn't work, they wouldn't use it.

well, you asked my opinion, and there it is.
I think you have more faith in the motivation of waterboarders than I do.

They use it to torture people. simply put. IMO, they use the 'extracting extremely important info' excuse to continue to torture people... it's not for some higher motivation.

just like the spanish inquisition, they want their captives to confess to whatever they're accused of, so they can charge them. no real quest for the truth there......

that's fine, that's your opinion.

but think about it for a minute... why would we use it if it proved useless every single time?

it is not a method to kill, but it sure aint pleasant. and if it saves 1 innocent person's life, I have no problem with it.

becuase we want to charge these people with capital punishment... becuase we SUSPECT they were up to something, but don't have nearly enough evidence to prove it. so we create a modified semi-secret 'justice system', outwardly avoid international scrutiny, and try to 'extract' additional 'evidence' through torture.

I don't think it's to save one innocent person from anything. If the gov't really cared, we'd have all of our military on the afghan/pakistani boarder.......

no faith at all in the judgement of this administration.

could be worse, we could be pulling out fingernails or electrocuting people (or what McCain suffered through) like they do in other countries.

I guess it all depends what you think torture is. some other methods include sleep deprivation.

seriously, I don't want to be represented by any gov't that argues that 'my torture is not as bad as your torture'. Call me a naive product of the 70's, but I like to think that this great nation is above that third world facist cr@p.

I like to think that we still value international law and the ethical standards of our forefathers.

also on a personal ethical /religious level, I cannot allow myself to rationalize what I feel are overtly morally wrong and essentially universally evil behavior

I happen to think this is a decent idea, however I think the same should be offered to poor men to have a vasectomy. I don't think it should be targeted solely at women.
I think that it would need to be a comprehensive program including planned parenting counselors working with people willing to participate to make sure they understand what they are signing up for & not just being lured by the money.
