Poll: 1 year bday party - open gifts?

We are having DS's first birthday party tomorrow. We will have family and some friends. DH wants DS to "open"presents... i don't like the idea... what would you do?

I think that DH and I will be the ones sitting there opening gifts in front of everyone really.... and it will take a while... seems uncomfortable. We've only been to one other 1st year bday - gifts were not opened there.

TIA everyone!

we didn't do it during the party...I felt like it would have been too chaotic, with young kids running around, etc. We did it the next day. I actually haven't been to a 1 year bday party yet where the kids open the gifts in front of guests.

I figure leave it up to your DC, If they want to get into the whole ripping of the paper and playing with the boxes, let them it's their birthday. But if your DC just doesn't seem interested, let it be and open them later.
It also depends on time constraints and where your having the party. If it's out somewhere, you just pretty much throw them all in a bag and open them when you get home(unless DC sees something they want to open before hand)
And if it's at home and they're sitting around and DC goes over to them and opens them, let them.
My nephew absolutly loves just ripping the paper off of everything and for his first birthday party, people could barely get in the door before he had the present unwrapped. It was cute!!

We did it & had SO MUCH FUN!!
We set up a blanket outside(it was in May) & I sat with her but she did most of the work. Everyone gets to see DC's reaction, which at that age can be funny !!

We did, but we had a home party and not too many guests.

I say no, it would be way to much work for me at the party to start opening up all his gifts, I wait till we get home when its nice a quiet and he can enjoy each gift he gets.

We did it after cake, so most guests left and the few who wanted to stay did. I thought it too much pressure in front of a huge crowd.
