Poll: At around which age did you start acting less like a child and more like a "grown up"?

Let me clarify, when you were a young child, when did you decide to put away the barbies, cabbage patch kids and jump rope and started with the boys, clothes and make up?

I selected other.

I don't ever really remember playing with barbie dolls. My 1st brother came around when I was 5 so he was my real life dollChat Icon . Then my mom just 3 more kids after that so I was always around little kids at a young age.
As a tween I was always kinda sitting around adults when their were no kids my age around. I had chores and needed to cook dinner for the whole family at 13.

Somewhere between 12-13, to my recollection. Right around the time I went to junior high.

Re: Poll: At around which age did you start acting less like a child and more like a "grown up"?

I would say 12ish. Well around 7th grade, which would be more like 11 bc I am a December baby.

I work with Middle School aged children and I will say it really varies. I have 6th graders who act like babies, and others who act like adults Chat Icon

So it really is unique to the child.

What I have noticed is children with older siblings tend to "grow up" quick or act more mature. Perhaps they model the behavior of their older siblings.

Re: Poll: At around which age did you start acting less like a child and more like a "grown up"?

Lets see.... I started getting interested in boys when I was in 8th/9th grade. I always thought I was pretty delayed because ever since 5th grade, I knew other girls in my grade who had boyfriends! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I teach middle school now and it's sooooo mixed. I am NOT trying to make a generalization here but I find that mostly the ones act more mature, are the ones who are more physically developed. Likewise, the kids who act very immature tend to be very "small" and underdeveloped. I had some very immature kids in my class last year who physically could be mistaken for 3rd graders! Like I said, I am NOT in ANY way making a generalization, it's just something that I picked up on based on MY experiences. Of course there are always exceptions!!

I would say 8th grade. My house kept me young...I was the oldest of a lot of kids.

I said 10, but really, I think it was much earlier, I just can't remember the exact age. I'd probably guess like 7 or so. I wasn't a child for very long. I grew up very quickly, just because I guess that's who I am.

I voted wrong, I started acting more like a grownup than child at the age of 12, I stopped playing with my barbies by than.

Friends/boys/socializing etc 15 to 16.

I had all my stuffed animals until I was 23. I got kicked out of my house and left them all behind. I would probably still have them if that argument with my parents never happened and they didn't throw away all my things after I left.

Re: Poll: At around which age did you start acting less like a child and more like a "grown up"?

I grew up on a block full of boys that I grew up with so growing up I played with Nintendo games and outside. At around 12 I started "hanging out" rather than "playing" with my friends. Boys didn't come into the picture till I was around 14 though. And I wasn't allowed to wear make up till high school I think.

Was I supposed to do that? Chat Icon

I think I was interested in boys at about 13 and that would be when I stopped playing with dolls. I never got into makeup and as for clothes-that debacle that became my shopping problem started at 15.

I'd say the summer of 5th grade going into 6th grade - that's when I got over the "kiddie toys" and I started getting into wearing make up, picking my clothes, having crushes on boys.....that's the summer i had my first kiss Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Not until I was in highschool...

many of my friends used to tell me I was immature and it may have been true, but most of them don't remember being a kid. I was never in any rush to grow up.

I guess 5th grade because i had boobs and my period by then and i was completely hormonal. But since I was shy (thank god) i didn't kiss a boy until I was just leaving Jr. High so 8th grade.
