POLL: Did you test positive for TB?
Because I'm an OCD type of person, I've been doing a ridiculous amount of research on TB. (I have to take a TB test on Monday, and I'm a needle phobe- as you all probably know by now).
Then I started to wonder...what if I actually test POSITIVE? In doing more research, it seems almost...common

Re: POLL: Did you test positive for TB?
always negative, but I worked with a high risk TB population once and I have to admit that I was always a bit nervous getting the test done (had it done every 6 months)
If you are not physically sick and test positive - you can clear it up with meds and never get the full illness.

Not to worry. If you test positive it only means that you've been exposed. It doesnt mean that you have the disease. They send you for a chest xray and take it from there. Good luck!

you're too funny!
to answer... always negative. I get it every year, as required... like the other poster said, if it's positive, they just do an xray and follow up.

you would DEFINITELY know if you had TB, you would be really sick. I too work with high risk patients with TB and I had a scare when I was pregnant since one of my guys came down with TB, although i was exposed, I was not affected by the exposure, you need someone to actually sneeze or cough on you and the droplets need to infect you. The needle is so thin and it only goes subdermal, if you look the other way you won't even know it is being done You can also ask the nurse to use an anesthetic which numbs the top layer of your skin

Re: POLL: Did you test positive for TB?
I get tested for tb quite often as I work in a hospital and I have gotten many false positive tests. I usually go go for chest xrays now, instead of the normal tb test b/c the induration lasts a while, but the test is not bad at all..

Re: POLL: Did you test positive for TB?
I'm always negative, but Rich always tests positive and/or has a crazy reaction to the needle prong test thingy.
He goes straight for a chest x-ray now - doesn't take the needle test at all. (as a teacher, he needs to do this once a year.)

You can be exposed without ever actually having TB. Once you test positive, you will always test positive for it. I taught with someone who grew up in the Phillipines who tested positive for it, but never actually had the disease. He told me it was not that unusual to test positive for it if one lived in the area where he was raised.
