POLL: opinions needed on dd's easter dress situation please...

My dd is being Christened on Holy Saturday at my churches Easter Vigil..its a pretty big deal and we paid a ridiculous amount of money on her gown..for two reasons being the Christening itself, the nite its on will be a nite where about 350-500 people attend this service..and also, im making it from my wedding gown, so it will be an heirloom for years to come..

my question is this..I was pondering having her not only wear it to her Christening brunch, and the ceremony on saturday, but also on Easter Sunday to Mass that morning, and to dinner that nite...
my mother and my dh thinks this is cheesy and she should wear an easter dress that would be more appropriate..

whatdya think??

I would get another dress for Easter Sunday. I hate the idea of buying another dress but I would think it was strange to see a baby in a christening gown who isn't being christened.

As you said you are making it an heirloom dress so it's not like it's going to get used again.

I vote to get her an Easter Dress -

I can completely understand the desire to put her in the gown again and show her off !!!
But, you wouldn't wear your Wedding gown on any day other than your Wedding - KWIM?

In the Greek religion.... you baptize a baby and then the baby has to go to Sunday services to receive Holy Communion 3 Sundays in a row..... Dressed in their baptism outfit. So for me, it wouldn't be weird at all....

I would get another Easter Dress, but this doesn't mean you have to get a really puffy one of anything. Get something she can wear multiple times as a spring dress or for the summer.

The only reason I say this is because I would hate to see her Christening dress get ruined with so many people being around.

Re: POLL: opinions needed on dd's easter dress situation please...

I voted for another dress.

For my second daughter's first Easter, my DH made me reuse my first daughter's dress. I felt so guilty that she didn't have her very own first easter dress and still do everytime I look at the pictures.

We do not have the Baptism, Holy Communion, and Confirmation at different stages of life. We do everything at once.... when the baby is baptized.

Let her wear it again.

My church incourages the kids to wear it for a few weeks afterward. It's a way for the congragation to see who is was just babtized (or who just received their first Holy Communion) if they weren't at the mass where it happened.

It won't take away from anything.

Ok, now when a Catholic receives communion, we are given a communion "wafer", is that the same in the G.O. religion? If so how does the baby "eat" it?

The holy bread is put into the cup of wine.... The priest breaks off a piece of the holy bread with a spoonful of wine. The baby is given a tiny crumb of bread with the drops of wine on the spoon. it's not even a half teaspoon of wine.

Re: POLL: opinions needed on dd's easter dress situation please...

thats the thing, this is the first time my church is EVER doing this at the Easter Vigil, it is such an honor for us...they usually only baptize members of the RCIA, people who are either converting, or receiving missed sacraments..never a baby..this year, they had no one that was to be baptized..and they knew i was pregnant..and were very active members of our church and i was baptized through the RCIA 3 years ago..so they asked us..

youve all got me dress shopping now Chat Icon im sure my dh thanks you!!
