Post Baby Shower
Hey all.
Shower is coming up rather soon and it looks as though DH and I will have to purchase alot of things ourselves afterwards. A bit disappointing, but it is what it is.
If you were in this position, what did you purchase and how did you prioritize?

Re: Post Baby Shower
Just because your registry isn't empty doesn't mean that items weren't purchased.
Between my family and dh's family, people didn't "get" the concept of a registry and didn't take items off as they were bought. As a result, we ended up with four strollers, three PnPs, three playmats, three car seat bases, etc. I'm sure you get the point!
Anyway, wait until after the shower and then worry about what needs to be bought. You may end up with much more than you expected.

Re: Post Baby Shower
Wait. Some people don't buy until the morning of the shower (really, I checked a gift reciept!) You may also get a lot of gift cards with which you can buy those items.

ditto, you never know. Either way, if you've already had your shower, I would begin purchasing things now.

Re: Post Baby Shower
As someone else mentioned, people will buy last minute. Similarly, this happened to us. We did need to buy a bunch of stuff. We did get gift cards though and did some returns. I also went through my registry and tried to eliminate the wants vs. the needs.

Re: Post Baby Shower
When is your shower date?
A lot of people buy gifts last minute. My friend got like quadruples of registry items that were still left over on the last 1-2 days.

Next weekend will be the shower.
Guess I am just feeling a bit down becauuse not alot of stuff is disappearing. My cousin's wife's shower is this weekend and she is getting practically everything she asked for. We are going to be sitting there watching her open gifts forever lol.
AAh forgive me I am just a bit stressed about this whole shower thing. I have fears that no one will show up ( due to it being a bit far) among other things.

Re: Post Baby Shower
You wait things will start disappearing now. And I promise you have of what you registered for are things you don't NEED to have.
After the shower and you return and get your gift cards you will go and get the necessities. Your baby HAS to have, a car seat, somewhere to sleep, a stroller, some clothes, diapers and formula if you are not BF'ing, and bottles. Everything else are luxuries. I know that sounds weird but they are. A bouncy seat could be added to the necessity list unless you want to hold the child all day
But things like a diaper genie, a wipe warmer, a fancy bathtub, a swing, etc. are nice to haves.
Be practical. A pair of UGG boots (real ones) for a newborn are cute but not necessary. Return stuff like that to get what you need.
Half the stuff I registered for I could have done without. If you want I would be happy to look at your registry and mark off things I couldn't have lived without.

Re: Post Baby Shower
I wouldn't stress about it yet. I can't tell you how many times I have gone to showers and the person's registry is full until the morning of when everything suddenly comes off of it. I know for mine - things only came off the night before. I got all my main items but NO clothes.
Wait and see what you get - you may find you don't get everything but you get a lot of what you do need - then you can use gift cards or returns to get items that you definitely need. You can also at that point weed out the items that really need versus those that you only sort of want but don't really need.
I had a small shower (about 17 people and b.c of another conflict about 7 people sent gifts who couldn't be there) and I honestly didn't have to buy all that much - I can only imagine what those who had 30-50 people get.
Don't stress about clothes either - I got so many clothes when DD was born that I could have bought so much less if I had known.
Honestly you really only need a stroller, some furniture, car seat, bouncer seat, swing (you can get away without one if necessary), some blankets, diapers and supplies, bottles if you aren't BFing and clothes - you can buy anything else slowly over time as you need it.

Exactly!!
I can not tell you how many people went shopping the night before and the morning of my shower!! I honestly thought my DH and I would have so much to buy since nothing was coming off my registry and then the day of my shower we literally got everything we needed except the breastpump. Also BRU didn't take a lot of things off the registry so that made a huge difference!
