Post nasal drip cough-wwyd?
DS is 17 months old and has been up the past few nights with a cold and cough. I think his cough is from post nasal drip because it's a dry hacking cough and he is almost gagging when he tries to swallow. Is there anything I can do or give to help with his cough? We've been using saline drops, suction and warm baths. TIA

Re: Post nasal drip cough-wwyd?
DD had the same thing and has it again now. Ask your ped of course, but they told us that she could have 3/4 tsp of children's benadryl- to help dry the drip up and in turn stop the cough. It worked GREAT!
But you have to ask your ped on the dose - since it's not on the box for children that age- and your ped will have to tell you how much to give based on weight of your child.
Also- try running the cool mist humidifer or vaporizer- that helps a bit too.

you can also try a teaspoon of honey...put it in warm water if you think your LO won't take it alone.

Re: Post nasal drip cough-wwyd?
My ped recommended Zyrtec BC it lasts longer. It usually works. Era. I also give both ds tea with honey. they like the fruit flavored celestial seasonings. I drop an I've cube to cool it and put it in a straw cup.

it really does! I will give my kids a spoonful and it coats their throat and it'll immediately stop the coughing :)
