Post nasal drip/nasal issues during pregnancy
anyone having problems with this beside me?
I have come to the conclusion today that is it a major reason I am as sick as I am...post nasal drip.
I was reading about Pregnancy Rhinitis. I think I have it.
I have sinus problems in general, and have had stomach upset due to PND...but this combined with pregnancy has taken it to a whole new level.
if you do suffer from this...what do you do to make it better? the biggest problem for me is our house. the air is SO dry...I am always sicker when I am there than when I am in our apt. I am not quite sure what to do.
one saving grace...warmer weather means I won't have to turn on the heat...but this is just awful...the way I feel right now.
ETA: info on pregnancy rhinitis

Re: Post nasal drip/nasal issues during pregnancy
Sorry to hear this, I don't think I have post nasal drip, but I've developed a sinus problem, I'm always congested and sneezing. But I don't feel sick and it's lasted way too long to be a cold.

there are a few ways it can manifest, so you could have it too. they say it lasts about 6 weeks.
i am just prone to PND when my sinuses are acting up, so I am getting the running from the front AND behind my throat, with sneezing.
I hope you feel better too

Re: Post nasal drip/nasal issues during pregnancy
I DO! I had it with DD and again this time. Unfortunately it makes my heartburn/reflux 1000% worse where tums and zantac (the strongest my OB lets me take) doesn't take the edge off. It gives me this horrible cough and sometimes makes me vomit.
I find a humidifier at night helps but honestly nothing really is great. My OB will only let me take benedryl or an occasional claritin (Only for 1-2 days at a time) which really isn't any help. I have kind of just learned to deal with it - and stay in as much as I can when my allergies get really bad.

I have the same problem. I use the humidifier all the time and take sudafed and claritin. It sucks, but hopefully with the warmer weather it will get better.

Re: Post nasal drip/nasal issues during pregnancy
i have it BAD this time-horrible! definitely pregnancy rhinitus. it has been bad since about 11 weeks-peaked at about 17 weeks or so. it was the worse. since then it has gotten better but is still present even now at 22 weeks. worst symptom so far for sure! edited to add the following things have "helped" but not erased it completely": hot showers tylenol sinus cool mist humidifier even robitussin (there is one that is pregnancy safe) that helped thin the mucus

Re: Post nasal drip/nasal issues during pregnancy
Mine is usually okay during the day and then flares up in the evenning (just in time for bedtime) I use the nettie pot and it has been helping somewhat. Morning I wake up, sneeze 10 times in a row, blow my nose 50 times and then I'm good to to until the whole things starts again at night

I have this too. I had it with DS but it is worse this time around. I constantly feel congested, sometimes get a bloody nose, sinus headaches, nasal drip which makes me nauseous and a cough

Re: Post nasal drip/nasal issues during pregnancy
I had it really badly in the first & early second trimesters. I used a Neti Pot & Tylenol for the headaches. I'm not positive, but Sudafed may be safe. You should def bring it up to your doctor to find out what you can do

Re: Post nasal drip/nasal issues during pregnancy
I am having MAJOR problems with this. The post nasal drip is causing me to cough uncontrollably (which of course makes me pee z). My OB prescribed OTC Tylenol Cold Sinus and Robitussin DM to help dry me out and control my cough. It seems to be helping a bit.

Re: Post nasal drip/nasal issues during pregnancy
I get terrible congenstion and then sinus headaches. My OB said Sudafed or Tylenol Cold and Sinus would be okay to take. I've used the Tylenol Cold (which helps a bit) but to be honest, I dont think there's much you can do. It's just another part of pregnancy (its due to the hormones) that s u c k s.

Re: Post nasal drip/nasal issues during pregnancy
i haven't had post-nasal drip, but extra mucus build up is EXTREMELY common during pregnancy. So basically, feeling congested, blowing your nose often, extra discharge, etc. etc. is completely normal. I believe there are some girls on here that take Mucinex to ease up the mucus... perhaps that might help?

Re: Post nasal drip/nasal issues during pregnancy
I take Zyrtec everyday, use a humidifier in our bedroom at night and I use a saline nose spray twice a day. I have horrible allergies, but my doctor didn't approve my nose spray. My sinuses are a mess!

Re: Post nasal drip/nasal issues during pregnancy
I have this as well, it has made my "morning" sickness a lot worse. When it's dry I use a humidifier and I use a netti pot occasionally.

Same here!!!!! I have had two sinus infections so far this pregnancy, amongst the flu & a couple of colds!!!!! The Dr & OB recommended Robitussin (no initials after it, just the plain one was safe) for the cough. Try the humidifier & definitely use a neti pot when congested.
I feel for you all..Trust me!!!!

Re: Post nasal drip/nasal issues during pregnancy
Horribly!!! i have had this with all my PG's...right from the start and it's horrible b/c sinus issues lends itself to other issues.
Anyway, I use a saline spray constantly but I heard about a homeopathic one that works WONDERS. i live by theis thing.
Its called Xlear Nasal spray And they only sell it at like The Vitamin Shoppe or GNC or an Organic food store.

Re: Post nasal drip/nasal issues during pregnancy
wow. thank you ladies so much.
I will talk to my doctor about the meds when I see her next Friday. I upped my water intake yesterday, and although I peed a lot more (like 4 times in 45 minutes at one point ) it definitely helped the congestion b/c my headache is not as bad.
my main problem still is my stomach and food. I don't like it. which is so alien to me.
I can honestly say I am never really "good" to myself...and usually just push through colds and ailments. I can't do that now.
I feel like *I* am the baby, being retrained
thanks all.
and I hope we ALL FEEL BETTER soon!
