Post pardum Depression question
Anyone not have PPD? i knwo there has to be some of you out there and i ask b/c my sister who had a baby in June keeps asking me and then asked my dh when i wasnt around how am i doing mentally? I thought it was an odd question but anyway.. i dont know i just dont have one feeling of ppd at all. in fact i feel happier than i have in a long time. Not that i wasnt happy before but it was a hard second half of last year with the two mc's. In fact i wouldnt even say i was depressed when that happened i was upset and devastated but not depressed. I am not saying ppd doesnt exist belive me i know it does but i almost feel like my sister is willing it to happen to me b/c she had it a bit after her baby. She is telling me you will feel angry and then sad and then you will question your decision to be a mom.. ummm.. i have NONE of this and i am greatful but i guess the point of this post is if you didnt have it did you find that people found it odd. Almsot like they EXPECTED you to have it.

Re: Post pardum Depression question
I think people do expect us to have it more often these days because it has been so heavily publicised lately (Brooke Sheilds for example). I felt overwhelmed and tired and a little blue but don't think I had PPD, I think I was just responding to the extra work and lack of sleep.

Re: Post pardum Depression question
Thank you for responding. yes i agree its been so publicized that its almost like i feel like my sister felt she should have it and so should i. She even quoted a statistic to me that 70% of women feel like this.
I am more tired obvioulsy and i think when i go back to work it will be worse as far as being tired and more stressful but i think some people not all relate stress and depression as going hand in hand and i dont agree.
Yes motherhood is stressful but i knew that going in. I dont think i have the easiest baby either but she is definitly not the worst but she is not the easiest either and i am just taking things as they come and know that the late night feedings and the wanting to be held a lot will pass and its just part of the process.. i dont know sometimes i feel like the odd one out for feeling this way.
Thank for lettig me ramble!

Re: Post pardum Depression question
I've had a few days where I didn't feel like myself but I wasn't depressed or felt I had PPD. I don't think everyone gets it but I have heard of it mansifesting later...like after a month or two.

Re: Post pardum Depression question
No and I didn't get alot of people asking me if I had it. I didn't get PPD. Oh sure, I had a mild case of the baby blues for a couple of weeks post partum, but that's just hormones and it's normal. PPD is more serious than that.
I also don't think that all the people that think they have it, actually have it. I think there is a big difference between the normal post partum baby blues and real PPD. So maybe more people are saying they had PPD and they really didn't...and that's why you hear about it more and people expect it more.
But there is a huge spectrum of how depressed a woman can get post partum so it's hard to say who really has it and how bad.
Not everyone gets it though and maybe your sister is just feeling a little bad about it still so she's projecting.
