the Bahamas?
My husband and I were planning a trip to Cancun in January. After Wilma Hurricane, this is definitely out of the question.
We are now looking for a new destination.
Has anyone been to the Bahamas? Where did you stay? How was your experience there?
We are looking to stay in a beach front hotel and even though we'd like to relax, we also love some nightlife.
If you have been to some other islands that you love..give the input as well. Will love to hear it.
Thanks for posting your experiences...Much Appreciated.Chat Icon

Re: Have You Been to

I've been down for a 4 day weekend in college. I don't know if my opinion would count it was so long ago. We stayed at the Grotto Bay Beach Hotel. It was a great hotel - they had a disco in a cavern. It was low key, not as much nightlife as the other islands IMO.

Re: Post your Experiences in the Caribbean

We went to Aruba for our honeymoon and loved it. I would like to go back again. We stayed at the Tara Suites in the Bucuti Beach Hotel in the low rise section of the island. It was great for us, because we were looking for a quiet, romantic place and this was perfect. There are so many nice hotels there that I am sure people on this board could recommend. If you guys are more interested in nightlife and water activitites, you might be better off in the high rise section - where the Hyatt, Radisson, Marriott and Wyndham are.

IMO, the beach at our hotel was much nicer, but there is more to do in the high rise section. The pool at our hotel wasn't great, but we didn't care - it was all about the quiet and the beach for us. HAve fun, whatever you decide to do!

Butting in.....the beaches on Aruba are beautiful - the rest of the island is pretty barren - lots of desert and scrubby bushes.

Re: Post your Experiences in the Caribbean

yes, Aruba is beautiful. If you've never been there, that would get my vote!!!

I'm not a big fan of the Bahamas at all. I've been there twice, once on a cruise, and once at the Atlantis. The snorkeling is better on other islands, the food is better on other islands, the shopping is MUCH better on other islands, etc.

Aruba!

Re: Post your Experiences in the Caribbean

Those were all cruises.

However, I've been to Aruba 3 times...once on a cruise and 2 other times I stayed at hotels. I stayed at the Divi Divi Hotel and the Tamajaran Hotel. While in Aruba, we rented a truck and drove to Baby Beach which is on the south side of the island. It is the so beautiful there, it's like a giant warm bathtub!!! I go there everytime I've gone to Aruba.

Which of these two hotels would you recommend better in Aruba? I am on Expedia right now so that I can get an idea before I go to the travel agency later....

Re: Post your Experiences in the Caribbean

San Juan- i stayed at cerramar (SP?) beach, it was amazing, rented a bike and rode to Dorado... an awesome experience (sans being attacked by a flock of roosters). old san juan (the town) is gorgeous, with cobble stone streets, and does look like its right out of a movie.. But, i would advise getting there early.. everything shuts down by 6, and then its not the safest place to be.

Nassau- was really nice, didnt make it to Atlantis, but took pics from far away and zoomed in to see more details of the hotel Chat Icon We went this past February, and you could still see sooooo much of the damage that was done. But i did love playing the bargain game at the straw market Chat Icon

Freeport- cute, nothing superspecial (esp since i had already hit up the straw market in nassau Chat Icon ). we went snorkeling by a coral reef though, and that was an Awesome experience. but again, it was kind of sad to see the damage that the island sustained Chat Icon

and in January, we're going to St Maarten, St Thomas, Tortola, San Juan (again) and Great Stirrup Cay.. but, obviously, i cant comment on those ones just yet Chat Icon
