Re: post your MIL horror stories!
Vent I really need to do this.
FIL is dying of cancer. He is to the point of hospice. He is only 53. He has been smoking 2-3 packs a day since he was 13. MIL smoked 2 packs a day but quit 12 years ago. Her mother died from lung cancer and now so is her DH. Last month my MIL decided to start smoking again and not only did she just pick up a cigerette and start smoking.....she is smoking 2 packs a day. How do you go from not smoking for 12 years to smoking 2 packs a day?
Dear MIL, How can you do this to yourself and your kids???? You watched your mother die from cigerettes and now you are watching your DH. Do you want your kids to lose their Father and Mother? Please, I beg you to stop!!!!! I don't wear your shoes and I pray to god I never do. I have no idea what you are going through right now. I would probably have to be sedated everyday of my life if I had to watch my DH die. MIL I am not judging you one bit. Understand that I love you and I want you to be around for years and years. My children and the rest of your future grandchildren will not know their Grandfather. Do you know how mch that hurts him? He only had the pleasure to see one grandchild born. We are praying that he makes it to March to see the next. Please stop smoking, I don't want this to happen to you!!!

Re: post your MIL horror stories!
how's this one? i am no longer with my x husband so i guess this makes her my x mother in law... when i had my first baby, i had really bad pp depression.. we were planning a baptism for the baby but i couldn't pull it together in the first couple of weeks.. my MIL was sooo furious with me that the baby wouldn't be baptised in his first couple of weeks rather at 3 months so one day she took him in her arms and baptised him HERSELF!!!!!! i couldn't believe my eyes!!!!!!!!

Re: post your MIL horror stories!
My MIL doesn't visit very often so we try to bring DD to her (and her mom who is 89).
When DH asked when we should bring her by again (she had watched DD for a few hours one night months ago and we haven't been there since) her answer was...Well now that my pool is closed...
As if she couldn't take a break from the freakin pool!
Oh and DH's whole family left DD's christening party before cake was served! BIL was the godfather, so we have no pics with him in it - like it would have killed them to stay an extra hour! I should have known this was how it would always be - two months before our wedding, MIL told us their family would be leaving the wedding early, since they would be tired
How do you know that 2 months before hand and she was the MOG, who insisted that her name be on the invitation as well.

Well, I can't. But some ladies remember the stories I used to tell here on the boards.
Let's just say that EVERYTHING I ever wrote on here was printed out and shown to me by my MIL.

Re: post your MIL horror stories!
I could add some really terrible stories to this thread that would drop some of your jaws, instead, I'm just going say how grateful I am that my husband finalyl realized how poisonous his family is and cut them off. Next month will be a year since we've seen them or spoken to them and it's been the best year of my relationship with my husband.

this is how Leo was baptized...his father's mother took him. Its so over the top, its almost unbelieveable.
I wish I had a story to share, but at 10 months old, she hasn't met him. It's getting sad now, Leo invited her for thanksgiving over the phone...then I heard him say "oh no, yeah I understand."
Thanks to the powers that be on myspace, I was able to see that she is planning a trip to Puerto Rico. Leo mentioned to her that she should go on vacation with us, she said well, you guys should come to PR with me. Sounds perfect, Josh will be 18 months by then.

Re: post your MIL horror stories!
My stories aren't that awful, but they sure make my blood boil. First, when we were getting married, she didn't bother going to a real dress shop to get a dress. She bought a dressy skirt and top (coordinating but different colors) from Fashion Bug! That would have been okay if she hadn't worn a beautiful full length gown to her other son's wedding a year earlier! When DD was born, DH had to practically beg her to come to the hospital to see the baby and to stay with us for a week. She left DD's christening party early to go to the casino!!! She constantly compares my DD to my SIL's children -- everything from their development to the fact that they have blonde hair and DD doesn't! She doesn't work and has had an open invitation to come any time she is "free" and wants to come, but has never come here to visit DD. She constantly asks DH "When am I going to get to see my granddaughter again?" DH finally told her "when you come here to visit her. Between Catherine and I we work 7 days a week. You can come anytime you want." When SIL asked her why she hasn't been here to visit, she said she never got a REAL invitation!!!!! Um hello, lady: do the same as we do -- call and say "are you busy this week? If not, we're going to come for a visit"!

Oh, I have tons...but let's just leave it the fact that when DS was 6 weeks old, she decided she didn't want to be here anymore. She left all of us (including her husband) to go back to Argentina, and I haven't spoken to her since she left 1 1/2 years ago.

Well, someone on the boards (her best friend's daughter) used to stalk me and print everything out, give it to her mother, who then gave it to my MIL.

Re: post your MIL horror stories!
My MIl is actually a fantastic women, but she oversteps her boundaries a lot. She seems to think that what she says should go when it comes to my son. There has been more than one occasion that DS "wasn't comfortable" and she's changed his clothes.
