DH and I are Wantagh grads and our dd is starting kindergarten here in September. It's a small district, there were about 200 people in our class when DH and I graduated. Back then we were able to take AP classes, as well as college level classes through Syracuse and CW Post that transferred into most colleges. I started Hofstra with my first semester already done. I know they still have AP, not sure about the college classes since we don't know anyone in the high school anymore.
Wantagh SD runs from Jerusalem Ave south to the water, between the Bellmore and Seaford borders.
There are 3 elementary schools (K-5), all of which are Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence.
Wantagh Elem (most people call it Beech Street School). If you live east of Wantagh Ave and north of Merrick Rd your kids will go here.
Forest Lake Elem. If you live west of Wantagh Ave and north of Merrick Rd your kids will go here
Manadaly Elem. All families south of Merrick Rd go here.
Then there is a middle school (6-8) and a high school (9-12). The 2 buildings are connected by a colonnade but it's rare for the students to leave their building for the other one.
The district administration offices are located in the middle school building.
2 years ago our budget was voted down, but passed last year. This year is our lowest tax increase in a long time, I want to say it's around 4%.
We have quite a few classmates who have moved back into the district so their kids will go here. We're pretty happy here. Good luck!

DS is attending Wantagh El. We are extremely happy with the school and the district overall.
I believe one of the keys to the success of Wantagh SD is the level of participation you get from the parents. PTA meetings are well attended and has a strong voice which is heard and listened too.
Extra curricular activities beyond the school are readily available. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are heavily enrolled. I think just about every sport you can think of is available in the community.
This years budget proposal is out at just under 4%, the lowest it has been in 10 years.
Overall Wantagh is a great place to live, we are very happy here.

Levittown is nice, but very "trafficky," especially by Hemptstead Turnpike.
My Grandma still lives there & my mom grew up there. On many blocks, the houses are all similar; not much difference.
However, everything is all right there for you store-wise, and near main highways, which can be good.
I know one person who went to Island Trees and they were happy & went on to college & all that good stuff.
I don't know anything about Wantagh, except I haven't heart anything bad about it.
