Postpartum troubles- Diastasis Recti and a hernia

8 weeks postpartum (second baby) and my stomach is a complete MESS. Besides the fact that it looks horrendous with blue and red stretch marks (looks like a giant sun)...
my INSIDES feel shredded. I have diastatis recti for sure, along with a hernia.

Can anyone please help led me to some help?
My core is so weak it's painful ??

I saw a general surgeon and had an MRI after my second to make sure there was nothing else wrong, but I just have really bad diastasis recti. I was told there's not much to do about it. Unfortunately. My stomach looks horrible and it is uncomfortable when pressed on too.

I've read about an exercise program called mutu or something like that

Also did your doctor say you have a bad diastasis? I think mine looks pretty awful (I look five months preg and I'm three months post) and my OB said just do 60 crunches a day, 20 in each direction. I said umm I'm pretty sure I read that with DR you shouldn't do crunches etc and she said "it isnt as bad as you think it is. Stop reading. "

My stomach looks horrible also! But the worse thing is being uncomfortable and so sensitive to touch. I wish there was some way to fix this other than serious surgery.

I have seen some suggested exercises and yes NO crunches, but nothing really promising. I am two months post and still look HUGE. I am getting tired of people asking me when I'm due. I don't need a flat belly I just don't want to look 5 months pregnant. Thanks for helping me feel like I'm not alone.

Same here. People mean well when they get all excited asking about my due date and I'm like "ummm three months ago". So then I get sad. So then I eat cookies. And then I get fatter. Lmao


And my chest is small which makes my stomach seem even bigger. I can't even hide the stomach with a loose fitting shirt!

Sigh.

Your doctor is a moron. See a physical therapist who specializes in this issue. You can definitely improve it with proper physical therapy. I follow Stephanie Rothstein Bruce - she is a long distance runner who greatly improved her DR. Crunches are literally the worst thing you can do.

My doctor just meant my diastasis isn't as large and she said doing crunches wouldn't make things worse

Either way,I haven't done them

I've heard of rothstein bruce. She's the one that posted pics of her stomach online right?

She posts about it frequently on IG.

I hate when doctors blow it off like it isn't an issue. If it's bothering you, it's an issue. My doctor did this with my prolapse. She said since it's grade 2 that it shouldn't be bothering me and I didn't need physical therapy - um, ok - whatever!!! I got physical therapy and now it's probably a grade 1 and I barely notice it's an issue.

I had bad DR, 4-5 finger separation even though it was only my first child--I was skinny everywhere else but still looked 5-6 months pregnant due to DR. I worked my butt off to get rid of it, saw a physical therapist/pilates instructor once a week and did the exercises she gave me almost every day (it should have been every day but I didn't always remember). It's basically gone, I have a small separation but my tummy is flat now.

I also used the Tupler Technique brace. I really think that helped a lot too.

My OB checked me at my 6 week visit and said "Nope, you are fine" and then I checked myself and realized she was VERY wrong. I then went to a PT and she confirmed it. I don't think OBs really know how to diagnose. She only felt in one part of my stomach where the separation was the least -- it was the worst by my belly button.

I'm sure you do have it, especially with twins.

It will most likely come back after additional babies but I'm too vain, I couldn't bear to have a big stomach. The best solution is a tummy tuck after finishing having babies, I may do that next time! If it is bothering you though, there are things you can do about it.

Thanks! I don't think I even knew what DR was at 6 weeks PP so I never thought to ask. I assumed all was still settling back into place. LOL.
I really want to work on at least reducing it a bit before another baby because at this rate, I will look 6 months preggo as soon as I pee on a stick. LOL.
Once I'm done...I've thought about tummy tuck. But I don't want wait til then and walk around looking like a have a baby bump!

there is!!! I just started going to Lotus Physical Therapy in Huntington. I went off a recommendation of someone and she is AMAZING! I had a 4 finger separation and after a week of doing my exercises every day, I was down to a 2 finger separation.
she specializes in DR and pelvic floor.

my OB at my 6 week PP just told me i looked doughy (just what i wanted to hear) and never mentioned DR. and told me i cna start working out again and doing crunches... (the worst thing you can do for it, but i didn't know that at the time) so i am now 5 months PP and still look like 5 months pregnant. and thin elsewhere. I was so confused and started looking into it. there is a self test you can do. I did that and saw i had it, and then started looking around for recommendations. Someone told me about her. she is great.

it sucks that doctors really aren't educated on DR at all and will just tell you to do crunches to make it better.

Yes!!! I found her after hours and hours of googling! I am so happy to hear first hand how great she is! I'm calling on Monday! Thank you so much for taking the time to respond and help. I can't take this anymore! It's embarrassing, hard to look at and most of all incomfortable!

How soon after giving birth should you start PT? I had this issue after my first two pregnancies. I'm due with my third in a few weeks and I'm hoping I can correct this through PT this time.
