Re: Potty Training - Average Age??
My 1st was 2.5 and daycare did it for me. I just followed their lead.
My 2nd was younger but I was a sahm. she trained at 23 months.
My 3rd was in pull ups at 15 months and trained by 18 months. She trained herself by watching her sisters.
Imo, the average is 2.5

Re: Potty Training - Average Age??
There is no way on earth any of my children were ready to be potty trained at that age.
My daughters were fully trained in one week at the age of 3. My older son was 4 when he fully got it. He had been doing pee on the potty exclusively but would poop in a diaper or on my floor, lol. My younger son, Ryan, decided on his own to do it and at 2 1/2 he is fully trained.

Re: Potty Training - Average Age??
I introduced the potty to DS#1 at 18 months old, full fledge started training at 2; and we were completly diaper and accident free before 2.5
I believe every child has a window; and generally that window is around 2yrs of age- if you miss that chance while its there, potty training becomes a bit more challenging...

Re: Potty Training - Average Age??
DS1 was fully trained (day and night) by 3 1/2. I went with it and waited until he was ready for it. He was peeing on the potty for months before I considered him even day trained though It wasn't until he fully gave up diapers (even for naps) a few months before 3 1/2 that I considered him trained. It was also my "laziness" though because I didn't want to be changing sheets! He might have been ready earlier but had the security of the pull-up! WithDS2, he has been peeing on the potty since a few weeks before his 2nd birthday (he even "accidentally" pooped on the potty once too. He loves to mimic his big brother and asked for it! He is no where near being ready to be trained yet, I just want him to be comfortable once he is ready. I think maybe once he is more verbal and can tell me that we will really bunker down and fully train him!

Re: Potty Training - Average Age??
Definitely depends on the child. My son was interested in it because he saw all the kids at daycare and wanted to be like the big kids. They started potty training him a about 20 or 21 months at daycare and we continued it at home. He was fully potty trained before he was 2.

Re: Potty Training - Average Age??
My Allie is the same age as Emma.
We did buy her the potty the other day since she has been showing the signs that she's ready. She's pulling her pants down squatting in her own little corner in private. Wants to be changes immediatly, and is banging on the bathroom door.
so needless to say we bought the potty and she's sooo scared of it. It took us 2 weeks to get her to sit on it without crying. Now it's her toy and she has no interest in potty training and we are sooo not pushing it. If she starts to show us the signs again we will try.
My oldest wasn't potty trained until she was a little over 3.
i think you'll know when Emma is ready to be potty trained.

Re: Potty Training - Average Age??
I don't know if there is an official age but I recently started Lily (18 months). She really is ready but mostly because of her big sister. She has gone daily on the potty but has also had an accident daily. So far she has gone once a day on the potty---the rest of the day, she has been in a diaper.

IMO, I think it SHOULD be done when you feel your child is ready and when you can devote the time to do it consistently.
ITA. My DD was on the older side (just over 3.5) I tried a few times before that with no success. I let it upset me alot that so many of her friends were trained before her, which was crazy. When I finally stopped stressing so much and relaxed about it, we both found it much easier and the training itself went pretty smoothly. My DD is very stubborn and needs to do almost everything on her own terms. This is the same child who I when was induced (she was 6 days late,) had descended before starting the induction, once the induction started went right back up high. I needed a c-section and they still needed to vacuum her out. I should have known right then what I was in for.

Re: Potty Training - Average Age??
DD is 3 and is pee trained (day) for about 5 months now.
She has occasionally pooped on the potty, but still goes in her pull up.
We started trying to PT at about 26 months and she peed on the potty almost right away. But it was a struggle to get her on it and then the poor thing got a UTI. So we put it on the back burner and tried again this summer.
It was much easier the 2nd time around. I believe when they are ready, it's a 1-2-3 step process.

Re: Potty Training - Average Age??
Are these signs of readiness or am I over analyzing. DD is 18 months. When she does #2 she holds onto the doorway and strains. Sometimes she'll stand in the middle of the room and concentrate. If I am looking her way, she says "kaka". I've put the potty in the bathroom and she'll sit on it. Are these signs of readiness? Should I try something. I don't want to push it, if she's not ready. Help!

Re: Potty Training - Average Age??
I started at 2.5 with the first two and they were fully trained by 3. My 21 month old will tell me potty and walk into the bathroom and poop and pee in his diaper. I'm thinking of waiting until 2.5 for him as well since it will be summer. I thought it wasn't really possible before 18 months?

Re: Potty Training - Average Age??
There are TOOO many things that go into potty training..
With DS, he had been trained at around 20 months and then DD came along and we moved, so he regressed big time and I didn't fight him on it and then trained him the week of his 3rd birthday.
With DD, she trained HERSELF at 18 months.. she wanted to be like her big brother and she was trained in a day!
with DD#2, she is 26 months old and she literally takes her diaper off and goes on the potty and then puts on her sister's underwear but I know she doesn't fully get it because she'll pee through the underwear and then poop on the floor right after lol
I am in no rush and they will go when they are ready.

Re: Potty Training - Average Age??
Honestly, I'm waiting until he can tell me he pooped. I know when he does, and ask him. He smiles. But that's it. He watches daddy, and dh gives him tips " make sure you give it a shake, mommy doesn't like drips" he will be 2 in Jan, I will give it a shot after. I'm not rushing it.
