Potty Training

At what age did you potty train your DC?

Ryan is just starting to verbalize more, but is not yet telling us, or letting us know when he goes. His speech delay makes it a little more daunting than normal, I can imagine. I know he "knows" when he goes, but it's hard to communicate to him how using the potty works. KWIM?

I sat him on it over the weekend with his clothes on, and them with his diaper (he wears a pull up since diapers don't fit anymore) pulled down, and he wasn't too fond of the potty. I keep talking about it, and show him it all the time, but he says "no" when I ask him if he wants to sit.

Re: Potty Training

My ds is a little over three and just starting to get the hang of the potty. He is about 90% pee pee trained and number 2 is a hit or miss. He'll usually run to the potty after he goes number 2 to let us know he's gone, but if we don't catch him then he usually goes in the pull up.

I got PECS pictures (picture exchange) pics of the potty...they are little pics with velcro that shows the steps of the potty (example: potty, pull pants down, wipe, wash hands, etc) to show him what to do. His s/p uses PECS in school with him and he has a little book so I just added the potty ones. This has helped him to learn what the potty is about. You can try looking online for pics (PECS pics for potty) and find them.

Thank you for the great idea! I think the pics will help explain it better for him. Chat Icon
