Powder vs RTF- fussiness and gas??
My DS has been FF since he was 4 weeks old. I have always used powdered formula since we started him on formula.
The past few days, I have been using RTF since I had some coupons. Same brand/type (Similac Sensitive).
Well DS has been miserable the past few days. Crying, very gassy, and fussier than he has been. He is currently 9 weeks old and I thought in the past few weeks he has seemed calmer, until the past few days.
could this be caused by the switch?

I think he's just going through a phase. Sometime around 6-8 weeks babies hit their peek of fussiness, then it all calms down before 12 weeks.
I actually found it the other way around, that powder was more gassy than RTF.

Agree. For DD anyway, the RTF was alot better gas and spit up wise. Their is a fussy period there..I think DD went through the "witching hour" at that point and cried for an hour or so every day from 5-6- then it passed. HTH

Re: Powder vs RTF- fussiness and gas??
we started using RTF at night, about 4-5 days ago. he was fine until last night
he had 5 ounces at 930 and slept until 330. He would NOT go back to sleep, fussy, squirmy, just not happy. I dont know if it was gas or he was just uncomfortable for some reason but he has never done that
i finally got him back to sleep at 530 and he slept until 930 so I know he was tired
i think its just the age. i we dont have a repeat tonight!
ETA - he is 7 weeks today

I thought the same thing- that the RTF would be better tolerated than the powder.
I will try giving him gripe water again too. I did it between 6-8 weeks when he was especially fussy and it seemed to help.
Anyone have luck with Mylicon drops? I do think it gas because he passes a ton of gas while he is eating and afterwards Poor little guy...

definately could be a phase. We originally started DS on powder & found him fussy & gassy. Once we switched to RTF he had no issues. We did not go back to powder until 7 months

yes, we use mylicon in every bottle ... HUGE difference. he doesnt spit up, he burps and doesnt have trouble passing gas (maybe once in a blue moon, he will strain)

I used to use it with every feeding. When she was younger, probably your DC's age she had BAD gas all the time. Now that shes older - 5 months- hardly ever

ITA
Logan was fussy at the same age...
and the RTF is easier on their bellies than the powder. RTF is the way to go, if it's possible.

Do you put the drops inside the bottle or give them using the dropper prior to when he eats?

I gave it to her with the dropper before or after bottle. Whichever.

Re: Powder vs RTF- fussiness and gas??
I had the opposite occur. The RTF worked better for my DS.
For the Mylicon - I always give it before the bottles or mid-bottle if for some reason I forget (when he's really hungry). The reason being that he's a creature of habit and he knows when he gets mylicon, he's getting a bottle. We've tried to give it to him just when he's gassy and his little mouth starts making the bottle face.

we got into the habit of putting them into the bottle with the powder (i thought it would break up the bubbles in the powder - I dont know if it really did) so we stuck with that with the RTF
