Pre-natal Vitamins

Did anyone continue or stop taking their pre-natals after they miscarried?

I was taking them 3 months before I wanted to TTC then while I was 8 weeks pregnant, but tossed them when I miscarried 3 weeks ago. I have my other boxes in the closet still and I'm not sure if I should start taking them again even though we are TTCing. I just feel like I tried to be prepared and miscarried and now I guess I'm just defeated! Chat Icon

Thoughts?

Re: Pre-natal Vitamins

I stopped taking the ones that were prescribed to me during the pregnancy. I felt like it made me sad.

I had to have d&cs so they told me not to take any vitamins leading up to or on the day of the procedure. After the procedure though I did go back to taking the over the counter ones. I was taking Women's One a Day Prenatal.

I stopped taking them after my 2nd m/c bc I was just so disgusted with everything, I just started taking them again last week...but i've always taken OTC ones from Rite Aid, my dr. says those are fine for now.

Re: Pre-natal Vitamins

After my MC my doctor also said to keep taking them as we could have tried right away after the D&C & first period. But we decided to wait until this Sept to try again. So i stopped for a bit but justy started them again.

Re: Pre-natal Vitamins

I understand how you feel about this. The doctor had given me tons of samples and I was going to pick the brand I liked the best. I was still using the samples when I had the M/C and I hid them in my house and stopped taking them because they made by angry and sad.

As soon as I found out that I was having a M/C and it was officially over I stopped eating healthy for a few weeks. When I was PG I was drinking a glass of milk every day and eating tons of fruit and veggies and overall very healthy things. It was upsetting to have a M/C after trying so hard to take care of the baby by eating right and taking prenatals.

Now I just take a multi because my doctor said I dont need to take prenatals until I am PG again.

Re: Pre-natal Vitamins

I stopped taking mine right after my m/c...I only started again when I became pg....I didn't feel the need to continue with a routine that would remind me of being pg...

The post op nurse at my D&C said it was important that I continue taking them as my body needed the nutrients to heal. I never stopped taking them and I am over 4 months post D&C. I just take the Target brand.

Re: Pre-natal Vitamins

When I had my DD in 2008 my OB told me to keep taking my prenatals even though we weren't planning to TTC for a while. She said women of child bearing age should take them because they're just multivitamins with a few extras. I've been taking mine since I started TTC for DD in 2006. I had a miscarriage last week and think that the extra nutrients can only help the healing process.
