Pre-planned c-sections - especially second timers or more
I already know I'm going to pre-schedule a c-section based on a lot of personal health issues and previous c-section. I did get my pre-reg forms today for the hospital, but how far in advance do they schedule c-sections? I know with DD they didn't schedule the induction until about a week before, but I've heard that pre-planned sections are different and can be scheduled weeks out. Is this true? I forgot to ask the doctor today. Thanks!

I am eligible for a repeat c/s and was told only 7 days before my due date b/c the hospital will not schedule them before then unless the health of you or the new baby is at risk.

Re: Pre-planned c-sections - especially second timers or more
I think it depends on the hospital. I'm a repeat csection based on why I got my section the first time. They think that after my labor with DD followed by the need for my section the 1st time doesn't make me a candidate for VBAC (and from the field I used to work in I am not crazy about VBACS anyway). This time around my OB and I discussed a date in the beginning of my pregnancy and it was written into my chart - but my hospital will only allow you to actually schedule it with the actually hospital 4 weeks in advance. So I'm scheduled for June 3rd (if I don't go sooner) and they called and set it up for me back at my last OB appt.
Etd to add that I'm delivering at Columbia Presbyterian if not on LI if that makes any difference to you.

they allow you to schedule your C section at LIJ NHP 3 months in advanced and no more than 8 days prior to your dues date.
i scheduled my C section 3 weeks ago for July 22nd which is 8 days before my due date

Re: Pre-planned c-sections - especially second timers or more
i had a repeat C-section. i'm not sure when the hospital had me on the schedule (how long before the date) but i was scheduled 11 days earlier than my due date. but this was partially because of my history and the complications i had during pregnancy, they knew they weren't going to get me past that point. and as it turned out, i got to 38 weeks and told my doc, i was done, and wanted to be fnished that day. well, she had originally told me her goal was to get me to 38 weeks, so she said ok, and they got me a spot for later that day at the hospital. but i was also borderline pre-eclampsia by then with everything other problem i had. i wasn't going ot last more than another day or 2 anyway.

Re: Pre-planned c-sections - especially second timers or more
I'll be at NSUH. I am not a candidate for a VBAC b/c I have to be induced if I don't have a c/s and I've read that inductions are a much "harsher" labor which I can attest to as well b/c w/ DD once the Petocin came in my contractions overlapped eachother. I'm on blood thinners... My doc didn't seem too concerned, but I've done my own reading and also being that my births will only be about 15 months (slightly less) apart, not sure a VBAC would be safe and I may want more kids beyond this one and my DD. I'm just of the better to be safe mind set.
