Pre-school for 4 yr olds around Wantagh or Hicksville?

Hello,

I am looking for a program for next year for my (then) 4 year old.

I work full time, so I need a program that has extended day, at least 7:30am - 6pm. We live in Wantagh, I work in Hicksville, so both of these areas are fine.

I was thinking about Maplewood in Wantagh, but a friend of mine tells me that I may need to look into more of an pre-K program, rather than just a nursery school. Her 4 year old who is in pre-K brings homework home. He learns to write letters among other things. But she has universal pre-K in her school district, while we don’t have it in Wantagh.

This got me thinking – is it enough to place a kids into a nursery pre-school like Maplewood, or do I need to find a pre-K program for next year?

Also, any programs recommendations are welcomed – pre-Ks, daycares with extended day program, nursery pre-schools!

Thank you

my friends sons went to maplewood and she loved it. She is a 1st grade teacher herself and was pleased with what they were learning there

Pixie, Wee Friends & Maplewood (all in Wantagh) all have pre-k programs. They all assign homework, learn to write, count to 100, etc. My kids go to elementary school in Wantagh and have friends that went to all of those schools and they were all prepared fine for K.

My next door neighbor teaches K in a neighboring district and has said that all 3 schools are good and she'd send her grandchildren to any of them without worrying.

HTH!
