Preemie moms or fussy baby moms
What formula is DC on? DD is really fussy lately-as soon as she hit "full term". She is currently on Neosure advance for preemies. she is also on Zantac as of yesterday cause she spits up and burps during her sleep(but only after the supplemental bottles of formula ) Also she is really gassy even with mylicon drops--If I BF she is fine wont spit up much and falls asleep-If I give a bottle of formula she sucks a few times then cries--Also even if I put BM in the bottles she fusses and wont take the whole bottle which is new cause she took bottles in NICU. Her sister was the same-refused bottles but that was from birth----
Dr reccommended a soy formula but I am not too keen on that. It doesnt meet her nutritional needs as a preemie. so with that said what formulas do you give thats easy on tummy?
ETA: we have tried, Dr. Browns, Avent, Medela, Soothies, Playtex Ventaires, Playtex drop ins (only one she takes sucks at for more than a minute), Gerber plastics (hate them)

Re: Preemie moms or fussy baby moms
I'd try new bottles first, since she fusses with both the BM and the formula when you give her a bottle.
A lot of people have luck with the Dr. Brown's for gas.
ETA: We use Gentlease for gas issues as well....
And my friend had a preemie and he is on Gentlease as well, since birth at 32 weeks.

Re: Preemie moms or fussy baby moms
i am not a preemie mom but a NICU nurse so maybe i can help.. Neosure is really tough on thier bellies.. we see it all the time! it makes them extremely gassy and stinky!!!! Unfortunately when you need that 22 calorie formula that's really all you can do. If your daughter has now reached full term ask your ped if she can be switched to a 20 calorie formula.. the moms i speak too that have discharged from NICU have been having great success with nestle good start! Again, she would have to be a good enought weight for your ped to allow it! If it's still a problem, and your dr. doesn't want to switch to a 20 calorie formula... ask him about switching to nestle good start and adding vegetable oil for additional calories. Good luck HTH!

Re: Preemie moms or fussy baby moms
When we left the hosptial they had us mixing powdered formula inot the ready to feed and breast milk to bump the calories up. The Dr gave me a calcualtion for it. There was also a calculation that you could use for powdered you would put more powder then the can says and it would boost the calories.
IMO - I would not add vegetable oil, since that is just adding fat, adding the extra powder adds protein, carbs and fat in the same ratio the regualr formula has.
Ultimately we needed to switch bottles to Dr Brown's and then to Alimentium since my son had a milk protein allergy. Have they tested her stool fro blood? If there is blood in it, it oculd be a milk protein allergy.
Good Luck!!!!

Re: Preemie moms or fussy baby moms
DS was very fussy and I switched him to Gentleease as well..we actually do a mixture of the Gentle Formula and regular formula.
It only comes in a powder and Walmart actually makes their own under their PARENTS CHOICE brand. I have found that it is the same and it costs about $10 less. It seems a lot "lighter". Additionally I add a bit of rice cereal to his bottles to aid in the reflux issue. It seems to really help him spitting up.

Re: Preemie moms or fussy baby moms
DD was born at 33 weeks and she was on Enfmail Enfacare 22 calorie formula. She was very gassy. When she was full-term, the doctor switched her to soy formual (Enfamil Prosobee). It was a complete difference and she was fine on it. She did take zantac when needed, but it was very seldom once we made the switch to soy. Once she turned one, she was switched to whole milk and she's doing fine on that now.

her dr half heartedly recommended soy-thinks it wont meet the nutritional needs as a preemie and only wants me to do it if she has the milk allergy so I am cautious. The problem started when she got 2 bottle of formula as supplements so I guess its back to me pumping at night while she sleeps

the girls were on gentlease. It was great. But I still used gas drops. the Preemies formulas were horrible, they were refluxing like crazy.

Re: Preemie moms or fussy baby moms
Well they tested her stool and she does NOT have a milk allergy so I guess its on to finding the right formula for her. They recommended Similac Sensitive...
