Preggo Crashing. Was it beneficial to take LAMAZE CLASSES
Hi!! Thanks for letting me ask you BTDT Moms!
I have heard mixed reviews from friends on Lamaze. Some have mentioned it wasn't really worth it...while family and parents say it's a must.
Just curious what your thoughts were?

I rented a Childbirth DVD from the library. I was not about to take the class. The DVD was good.

Yes! for my 2nd baby
1st baby it did help but after I got the epidural it really didnt matter--although i did enjoy knowing what to expect from the lamaze clas
2nd baby--drug free birth (not by choice) and I really found myself thinking about the things I learned in lamaze (breathing etc)

I watched the Laugh & Learn DVD's as well.
There were 3 in total: Childbirth, Newborn baby care, & Breastfeeding. All were very helpful and informative.
And FREE!!

Re: Preggo Crashing. Was it beneficial to take LAMAZE CLASSES
I say do the class. We had a lot of laughs, met some nice couples, learned A LOT and got to get out of the house and learn about childbirth without any other distractions.
It was especially beneficial to me since in our class we had visits from a doula, nurse and doctor. The info we got from the doula definitey got me thinking more about a natural drug-free childbirth and I was able to do it!
ETA: The breathing techniques and "happy place" b.s. all went out the window when going through intense labor... but everything else we learned was beneficial.

Even if I didn't USE much of what we learned from the class, I definitely appreciated BOTH of us having an idea of what to expect. Especially for DH who didn't crack a single book and wanted all info. spoon-fed to him by me, which wasn't happening.
DH did help with breathing and trying to comfort me too.

Re: Preggo Crashing. Was it beneficial to take LAMAZE CLASSES
i took a class- -it was good to have someone tell me i was not doing it right an work with me to breath properly
i got an epdiural but the time before it came in handy - plus the massage techniques where great to learn because i had back labor
i go to the hospital at 9cm and had to get the epidural because i was strep B positive- it went fast for me and would have had to have a drug free birth if i was not strep B positive because at 9cm they don't usually give the epidrual- just because you plan on getting an epidural will you be able to

ITA with this. I think just for peace of mind and the stuff DH learned it was worth it. Plus we did ours in the hospital, got to meet nurses, took a tour and had lots of practice getting there by the time DD was irn.

Re: Preggo Crashing. Was it beneficial to take LAMAZE CLASSES
Generally speaking I really dont think it's necessary...
But if you do take it it's not a total waste either...
I hope that makes sense...
It's kind of one of those things that arent a must but definitely not a waste...
Whatever you decide is fine...

All our friends told us to save our money on the Lamaze classes. DH did not want to go. But he HAD TO watch the DVD.

Re: Preggo Crashing. Was it beneficial to take LAMAZE CLASSES
I took the Childbirth Ed class at New Baby Belly and thought it was great!! It wasn't really lamaze, although they did briefly cover some helpful breathing techniques. It was more about knowing what to expect when you go into labor- how to know if you're in preterm labor, actual labor, what you will feel, things to notice, when to call the doctor, what to do, things to expect when you get to the hospital, and during the delivery, and after the delivery, etc. etc. etc. The class was taught by a registered nurse (who is also a doula), and is awesome. It was lighthearted and fun and there was plenty of time to ask any questions we had. She also had a pediatrician come in and we could ask him any question about anything- that was really helpful! I definitely recommend that class. Here's the info about it if you're interested. HTH!

ITA! None of the breathing helped me during labor, but the lamaze class I took also included a tour of the hospital and I found THAT to be extremely helpful.

Re: Preggo Crashing. Was it beneficial to take LAMAZE CLASSES
We started a class and quit it and then watched the Laugh and Learn. Honestly, whatever- I mean labor and delivery is like being on a freight train with no brakes so it doesn't even matter- but that said it doesn't hurt to watch a vid...
