Preggos with major food aversions...what are you doing for Easter dinner?

I am a chef in my soul.

I LOVE to cook. it is my creative outlet, my stress outlet, my love outlet. it lets me be and do and show so many things.

and I have not been able to do it for about 2.5 months now.

this weekend, our nieces are coming over our house. I am *hoping* to color Easter eggs and have a hunt in our yard. and I have to feed them. healthfully, b/c I refuse to do it any other way.

next weekend, just one of them will be, along with dh and i.

I HAVE to give them Easter dinner. but I don't know what to do. My MIL won't be around to help me (she's going out of the country with my BIL and oldest niece) and as much as dh would LIKE to help, he can't cook.

I am so SICK of making other people cook for me, or eating out or serving the same 3 things to my husband. my family.

so, I guess this is a partial vent and a partial call for ideas.

we can probably go out for Easter Brunch on easter morning, so that's ok.

but next weekend...is my major concern. I want to make it Easter for the girls since they won't be together on Easter Sunday (the older one will be away) and I can't expect my husband to be OK with going out to eat for every meal either....*I* am not ok with it...I guess I am looking for some ideas and guidance.

TIA. Chat Icon

*** cooked foods are my problem. I can smell anything RAW, but once the heat hits it, it's OVER for me. meats of any kind..it's pure torture.

It would help to know what's making you sick at the moment (or is it just everything?)

We usually have ham or lamb on Easter - and I would think of the two, the ham is probably easier to deal with, as lamb has quite a strong smell and texture. I would keep it simple - some steamed or roast veggies, roast potatoes - things that don't require lots of preparation or you to stand over them. It might not be a chef's dream dinner, but, well, baby steps! Chat Icon Do they know you're expecting?

In that case - lasagne?

My grandmother could never do one course - we had to have a pasta and a meat dish! If you did a lasagne it might appease the chef in you and then you could buy a small pre-cooked ham or something (do they do precooked anything else??? turkey?)

What about eggplant lasagne or parm?

How old are the kids? Are they picky or good eaters?

I could try the lasagna option and the eggplant.

one girl is picky (older) the little one will eat whatever I give her.

but they both LOVE lasagna...and dh could help with this.

thanks so much.

hopefully I'll be back to my old cooking self in the next few weeks. Chat Icon

I had the same problem (still do w/ certain foods cooking) but I hate to cook Chat Icon

How about a simple pasta dish or 'brunch' type foods like quiche - You can do all of the prep work and even put stuff in the oven - and just tell DH when to take everything out ........that way you can avoid the cooking smells

Jess to be honest, my food aversions change from day to day so god knows what i will want to and not want to eat by the time Easter rolls around.

Re: Preggos with major food aversions...what are you doing for Easter dinner?

I have had a meat aversion too. It's not really cooking it that's the issue for me, it's that I have no appetite for it. I was never really a meat lover to begin with, I always preferred fish and veggie options, but since fish is limited right now, its tough for me.

I have been doing a lot with things that have other flavors. Like turkey meatballs, because with the pasta and sauce, i can deal.

I make a baked pasta with rigatoni, turkey sausage and mozz, that I can eat.

I was going to recommend lasagna too. Obviously, Italian food is working for me recently...lol....

Good luck, I hope your meat aversion ends soon....

Well, I would say find a meal that can be baked. Put it all together and in the over. The most you will have to do is come bake a check on it.

I would not do stove top meals, saute, frying etc because that would require more hand on work during the cooking instead of the prep and would also have the food out in the open instead of contained in the oven.

With my first DD I had a strong aversion to any meat.

What about catering it? I have seen delis and stuff where you can buy a meal for even a small amount of people at the holidays, and they make everything...you just have to pick it up.

Honestly, I couldn't even make my own soup at the start, just being in the kitchen made me want to hurl....if this is the case for you, don't torture yourself- take the easy way out!Chat Icon
