Pregnancy with hearing loss or deafness

Hello ladies...I am a TTcer crashing and wondering if any of you have hearing loss or impairments and how that has been or had affected your pregnancy...I have moderate to severe loss in both ears and wear two hearing aides and I am not embarrassed to admit that I am scared sh+tless of not being able to hear my baby at night when it is crying (i don't wear the aides while I sleep). So any insight or advice on how this has affected you would be greatly appreciate! thanks and happy healthy 9s to you all!

You would think they have to have some type of baby monitor to help you with this. I am going to search it for you.

I work in a Deaf school and the parents there tell me that there are different devices that you can put on the crib to alert you, kinda like the ones when the doorbell or the phone rings. They also have vibrating monitors - I think Graco sells them. If you want me to get you any info let me know!

Re: Pregnancy with hearing loss or deafness

I am pregnant and also have a 21 month old.

I am completely deaf in my right ear, and I have normal hearing in my left.

I was really worried about hearing DS at night- when I am sleeping on my left ear, I hear NOTHING. I got scared thinking of him crying and crying and me sleeping right there through it.

I got two monitors, the Summer Video Monitor and the AngelCare Sensor Monitor. I always heard DS at night, kept them right next to my bed. I always hear him. I am sure there are other models that vibrate that will work even better for you.

Thank you so much ladies...I had heard of the vibrating monitors, but since this would be our first (when we do finally conceive) I was unsure of how they worked out for the new mom. Thank you so much for the info...I really appreciate it, and I may take you up on the help once the time comes

Re: Pregnancy with hearing loss or deafness

My cousin is deaf and no longer wears her hearing aids at all, and her husband is profoundly deaf in both ears. They have 3 babies. My aunt stayed with her for 2 weeks when each baby was born and she did say that there were times when my cousin and her hubby would be sleeping and the baby would be crying, BUT I do not believe they used any of the baby monitors for deaf parents. I would highly recommend them if you want to be alerted to when the baby is up/crying.

FWIW, my cousin's 3 kids are perfectly healthy, happy kids and there's nothing they missed out on in terms of care.
