pregnancy with HIP Prime or Empire insurance??

hi ladies,

i'm in the almost TTC phase, but currently have to make some major insurance decisions--so i figured it was best to post this on the pregnancy boards.

i have HIP prime, which covers everything with no co-pay, but wanted to know if any of you have any experience with them and pregnancy. i LOVE it, but have no idea what they're like with ob/gyn things

my other choice is Empire, which is SO much more expensive, but if the level of care is drastically different for pregnancy, i will switch later in the year.

i'd love to hear positives/negatives of both!Chat Icon

Re: pregnancy with HIP Prime or Empire insurance??

I have HIP Prime, and while I haven't dealt with the hospitalization part of this pregnancy yet, I've been really happy so far. I know people knock HIP but I had a good selection of doctors and the practice I have been using has been great and I feel that the care I've gotten has been excellent. I have never had a co-pay for any visit.

I have been hospitalized several times in the past because of my asthma, and I have never had a problem getting billed when I shouldn't, etc. and I never had a co-pay then either.

Re: pregnancy with HIP Prime or Empire insurance??

I have empire when I used to have Beech Street. Empire is much more organized! I don't have to fight for every bill and wait on the phone for hours filing appeals etc.

The only thing that was "expensive" was 35 for prenatals and 40 for the nutritionist visit. But neither were covered by my old insurance. No birth control, prenatal, nutrition...

I have Empire government and I think it is excellent because it covered 50,000 of infertility treatment.
I have alot of friends who are on stand by right now with getting pregnant because infertilty treatment is too expensive

I have Empire - no maternity copays for anything & nothing to pay for the hospital. Only pre-natal vitamin co-pays.
