Pregnant and jobless-worried
I went on diability late February and there is a possibility I will be on bedrest the entire pregnancy. My condition wouldnt allow me to work even part time. Well my company considers the first 12 weeks of STD as FMLA so I will have job protection until part of May after that its just regular STD without the protection of FMLA. So if they decide to let me go do I just get a letter in the mail and go on unemployment. I am an excellent employee never written up or repremanded and there is a temp doing the work P/T.
My mom keeps telling me not to worry but wouldnt you. I am getting discouraged and a bit resentful cause I want a normal pregnancy so badly.

Re: Pregnant and jobless-worried
are you in NY? Wouldnt you get NYS disability after your STD runs out if it runs out......Thats what Im on, since January. ( I have NO FMLA or no STD at my job though)
But your right, once 12 weeks passes, you have no job security through FMLA, but if your on disability ( STD) then they cant fire you unless your disability gets not approved.

My STD is approved already for way past the 12 weeks. Then I have LTD but its like pulling tetth trying to get someone to explain. All the CSR in Leave ADM kept saying was after 12 weeks you are no longer covered by FMLA she didnt say I couldnt be terminated. So you know I was panic mode.
also who made up the rates for NYS disability obviously they dont live on LI!

Re: Pregnant and jobless-worried
I was out 10wks during my pregnancy then out another 10wks after I delivered. I collected NYS disability as well as exhausted all my sick, vacation, and personal time. My job had no problem terminating me once I used my 12wks FMLA (still a little bitter about that but whatever) Lucikly I had private STD insurance as well which pretty much only covered the cobra I had to pay once I was fired. I was rehired without losing my seniority but one of the reasons I'm waiting on ttc with #2 was because of all the drama I went through with my pregnancy. I literally can't afford to be pregnant anytime soon in case this was to happen again.

Well when I worked FT I had STD for a certain number of weeks at full pay (don't remember exactly, 16 maybe) and then lifetime long term coverage at 1/2 pay. I'm not sure if this is how long term disability works for everyone but I was basically covered until I could go back to work and they never said anything about losing my job. I don't live in NY but I don't think that's neither here nor there with LTD. Do you have a manual explaining your benefits.
