Prenatals Making You Constipated?

I know some of you gals have complained about this so I wanted to type out this small blurb I read...

Question: My prenatals are making me constipated, what should i do?

It depends. excess iron is likely causing the discomfort - a prenatal vitamin has almost twice the amount of iron as a regular milti and this mineral isn't easily absorbed by your body. Because your baby needs the iron for proper development, first try taking in extra fiber to ease the constipation. Slowly increase your intake to 25-35 grams per day, and drink plenty of water. If that doesn't help, speak with your doctor about switching to a regular multi along with a folic acid supplement, or to a prescreption prenatal vitamin with a gentle stool softener (such as CitraNatal).

Thanks for the post, you are absolutley right.....this is the nurse in me coming out, its def. the iron making us constipated....I've taken to drinking prune juice in the AM.....my DH was laughing at me saying I've turned into my grandma.

i wish and hope and dream that something would make me constipated...(have ibs-d). i'm tempted to just start sucking on iron bars!

Prune juice works wonders too! I was prescribed Percoset temporarily after my tube removal surgery (from my ectopic pregnancy) and that medicine REALLY constipates me (so did prenatals)... If I drink a glass of prune juice at night, I always go the next day. It doesn't taste so great, so I just don't breathe through my nose while I gulp it down - barely taste it!
