Preschool Backpack
DS will be going to pre-school in September. The letter says he needs a backpack and lunchbag. He's only going from 9 - 11:30. Does he really need a lunchbag?
Also, what kind of backpack did everyone buy for a 3 year-old?
The school is closed until September 8th (the day before school starts) or I would have called directly.

Re: Preschool Backpack
When my DS started pre-k last year we also needed a backpack for him as well as a folder....We found that a lot of the back-packs that were more his size didn't fit a folder , so we had to get him a bigger one....He did fine with it and the back-pack was always full of projects, newsletters etc....
We weren't required to have a lunch bag, but I always packed my DS his snack/juice in a big zip-lock with his name I think all year, we only went through 3 of those !

Re: Preschool Backpack
The lunch bag is for snack/juice box unless your school is providing. Many of the kids in my DD's class just brown bagged it.

Is he eating lunch at school? If not, and you're not packing snacks that need to stay cold, I would just put it in a brown bag. And I got DD a smaller Dora backpack.

Re: Preschool Backpack
I don't know if he is eating lunch at school. I don't think so. I got the letter on Friday afternoon and the school closed Friday at 3 until the day before school.
Do you pack a snack every day? I wish I could call to ask all my questions.

At our school the kids who go those hours eat a snack and drink box from home. I got them lunchboxes because when I got their backpacks from TRU they had a promotion to get a free lunchbox with it.

Re: Preschool Backpack
I bought my son a Backpack from PBK. It's little, but it holds everything.
They ask us to send a diaper, wipes, and a change of clothes. Plus snack and a juice.
I don't think you need to send both bags.

Re: Preschool Backpack
I also bought my DD a really cute toddler size backpack for her 3 year old class. The teachers told me she needed a bigger one so they could send home artwork. So as someone else mentioned, make sure it can fit a folder even if it looks too big on your kid.

Re: Preschool Backpack
DS is only 18 mos, goes to daycare. He loved dragging his diaper bag around so I got him one at TRU. Its small, has wheels so he can pull it. It has Thomas the Train. It came with a matching lunch box. I got it b/c he liked it not b/c school told me so. I don't think they will kick him out if he doesn't have what they want on day 1 - I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I did the same for G
even though they serve snack and drinks at her school, she HARDLY eats them then is Starving and crying when i pick her up at noon..Learned this from her 2 week summer camp.. So i'm sending her in with her own water in a thermos bottle and snacks.
