Private hospital rooms

This may be a question better suited for Parenting, but I'll try here first...

Are any of you planning on getting a private room in the hospital or have any of you had one in the past? Does anybody know about how much it would cost? Is it/was it worth the price?

I am delivering at LIJ and I am planning on doing it...I think?

Re: Private hospital rooms

a private room is worth it! No other people in your room while your bonding with your baby, no other baby waking you up. In my hospital it was $250 a night.

Re: Private hospital rooms

I didn't do it, but I know the cost at St. Charles Hospital was $150/night, not covered by insurance.

Personally, I was in the hospital for 4 nights and only had to share a room 1 of the nights, so it definately would not have been worth it for me.

Re: Private hospital rooms

I was all set to pay for the private room, but they ended up getting me one without paying (long story). Anyways, I would say it is SOOO worth it. I was at NYU and it was pretty expensive (don't remember how much exactly). I have since moved, and for my next baby, the hospital in NJ where I would deliver has all private rooms - I am glad. I would pay for it in a heartbeat though....

I wish I'd paid for a private room, I think it would have been more restful for me. NS Manhasset was $300 per night (I think)

Re: Private hospital rooms

I'm Definetly looking into it! I want to be left alone to rest and spend time with my baby. Plus in my Hospital, LIJ, if you have a private room, there are no visiting hours, someone can stay with you 24 hours!

Re: Private hospital rooms

I will be delivering at NS Manhasset and I would like to have a private room however from what I have read, the private rooms are given on a first come, first serve basis. SO I just hope it is not that busy when I have the baby....

Re: Private hospital rooms

My friend had a private room in Huntington Hospital and it was $250. She had to share a room the 2nd time and she said she should have paid the $250 again becuase the private room was worth it.

Not all of them, it is on a first come first serve basis. The sections get priority as well as the GYN surgical patients

Re: Private hospital rooms

I shared a room with the worst couple known to man. The husband left for only 4 hours a night & they fought constantly!

My friend had a room w. 5 other woman. If I get a room like that I will DEFINATELY pay for my own room.

I had a c-section at Huntington and only had to share one night. The remaining three I was by myself and it was fantastic. It would have been an extra 750.00 if we requested the private room for the three days but luckily it was a slow period and there were only 5 maternity patients on the floor.

Re: Private hospital rooms

I was all ready to get a private room but there weren't any. The week I delivered there were 52 babies delivered! I shared my room with a horrible person who's DH kept calling her every hour on the hour and she would argue with him and talk loud on the phone. The next two girls were very nice, so at least I saved some money...Chat Icon

Re: Private hospital rooms

I had a private room w/my first and it was well worth it. They even brought in a cot for my husband to sleep on. But that was in California.

This time, I'm delivering at Stony Brook and all of the rooms are private...however, you have to share a bathroom. Chat Icon

Most private rooms only cost a few hundred dollars. For a couple of days, I definitely think it's worth it to have your privacy. JMO.

Re: Private hospital rooms

Stony Brook doesn't have all private rooms. They have a section where there is private rooms and there is a section where there is 2 beds per room. It goes on a first come first serve basis and of course priority. I had all 3 of my kids there though and lucked out with a private room each time. As long as it isn't to busy you should be okay.
